The Thought Provoking Cinematic Combination Of Konkona & Aparna Sen

 Saari Raat

Saari Raat

While the director did a great job, it is Konkona Sen steals the thunder with her performance. Her touching performance leaves you asking for more in the movie.

Mr and Mrs Iyer

Directed by Aparna Sen, this movie has Konkona Sen Sharma and Rahul Bose in the lead roles. Set during a Hindu-Muslim conflict, the movie is a layered view into themes like love, humanity and religious tolerance. After its release, the movie ended winning many awards like the National award for Best Direction and Best Actress.

15 Park Avenue

A thoughtful and emotional story,  this movie sees Konkona playing a schizophrenic living with her mother and her sister. In her mind, she is living a happily married life with her husband and five children. The struggle between illusions and reality has been brilliantly depicted by Aparna Sen, powered by Konkona’s spectacular performance.

Iti Mrinalini

This was a comeback film for Aparna Sen after she took a sabbatical from direction. Venturing out of her art-house niche, Iti Mrinalini also sees the mother-daughter duo share screen space. An insightful glimpse into the world of cinema, Aparna and Konkona play the older and younger version of the same character, Mrinalini. Taking the audience through the life of Mrinalini, the movie shows the struggles of surviving in the film world and the toll it has on the people within it.

Goynar Baksho

Directed by Aparna Sen, this movie again cast Konkona in the lead role as a newly wedded Bengali bride who is wiser and prudent. Pishima, the matriarch of the family (Moushumi Chatterjee) is obsessed with a jewellery box that she saved and kept in a secret place because it has the ornaments from her marriage. But shortly after Somalata (Konkona) arrives in the family as a bride, Pishima passes away. But in the quest to save her ornaments from misuse, Pishima comes back as a spirit and joins hands with Somalata to save her jewellery box.

Just like the previous films she did with her mother, Goynar Baksho sees Konkona Sen Sharma and Moushumi Chatterjee in top form. Aparna uses these stellar performances to her advantage and crafts a wonderful fantasy movie rooted in the Bengali culture.

So, what do you think of this mother and daughter duo? Which is your favourite movie featuring them? Let me know in the comments section.
