The Oscars Fashion 2021 has a story to tell, the long-awaited return of the Red Carpet, here is my take. Since I was a little boy, I have always watched the Academy Awards. Certainly, it was like a rite of passage for this young gay boy who loved glamour. Growing up, the winners were not the best actress but the best-dressed actress. The red carpet has only grown over the years and is now as important as the awards themselves. Fashion designers and stylists everywhere work hard to get their clients dressed in their gowns and styled by their eyes.

The award season lasts for several months and ends in a climactic frenzy of sequins, glitter, feathers, and real jewels at the Oscars. While the pandemic postponed the traditional February night till April, other award shows happened virtually. This past award show season was lackluster as celebrities appeared via remote feeds to receive their accolades. Somehow it doesn't have the same effect when the winner, dressed to the nines, appears from their living room. The illusion is shattered, when the tulle spills out over the coffee table. This is why the Oscars Red Carpet 2021 was much anticipated. This was the first live red carpet since the beginning of the pandemic. The stars who attended strutted their designer duds like it was the first red carpet in over a year, and it was. While the awards show its self came off as a hot mess, the fashion was there.

and the winner is the red dress

I am always able to come up with a theme when watching a red carpet. However, this red carpet handed it to me when the red carpet theme turned out to be the red dress. While the envelopes remained sealed until opened, the fashion winner was evident, the red dress.

AMANDA SEYFRIED

In a nod to the Golden Age of Hollywood, Amanda Seyfried won my best dress award for this bold red Armani Privé gown. I loved the neckline, ruffled and low cut framing the actress's décolletage. The dress was completed with a drop waist ruffled skirt, creating a unique silhouette. Ms. Seyfried's hair and make-up followed the classic feel of the look. This gown is red carpet splendor at its best.

The lesson to be learned from this look is don't overshadow yourself. What I mean by this is to know when you are styled, and not over-dressed. This classic look could have gone too far with a large necklace or intricate hairstyle. However, keeping it focused on the dress allows you to shine.

ANGELA BASSET

Angela Basset is a close runner-up for best dress in this sophisticated gown by Alberta Ferretti. Featuring oversized sleeves that form a bow detail from the back and a train, make this dramatic gown a show stopper.

A gown like this could easily swallow up the wearer. Therefore it's crucial to be aware when the scale of a dress is too much for the wearer. Here Miss Basset has the stature to carry the large dimension of the bow. Of course, posture and poise come into play when wearing a regal gown.

REESE WITHERSPOON

Reese Witherspoon selected a Dior pleated gown with an asymmetrical neckline. While I loved the dress with its pleated column silhouette, the measly black belt diminished the look. I have no idea whether designer Maria Grazia Chiuri, intended the dress to be worn with this belt, but this shows how detail can spoil a look. Always be careful when adding anything that will stop the eye. Whatever is added needs to bring something to the overall look. In this case, the eye is drawn to the belt and ruins the overall impression.

Yeri Han and Yuh-Jung Youn

Minari's stars are pictured here on the red carpet. Yeri Han wears a Louis Vuitton red dress that has the stunning detail of large gold buttons. Not just another dress, it is a bright tomato red. The color suits the actress and is a standout shade. The dress has a simple silhouette, color, and the oversized button detail gives the dress the needed flair.

OLIVIA COLEMAN

Olivia Coleman did not attend the Academy Awards in Los Angeles. However, she didn't skimp on the Oscar finery when attending an official screening in London. Coleman presented one of her best looks to date, wearing a beautiful red Dior couture gown. The dress was ankle length, with a high closed neckline and long sleeves. The tea-length dress with a synched waist was reminiscent of the House Of Dior in the 1950s.

This dress shows that an evening gown does not have to be floor length. The length of this dress adds to the movement and the line. It also allows you to show off some fabulous shoes.

The Oscars red carpet certainly was not the same as in past years. However, why would this be different from anything else? The number of stars who walk the red carpet was reduced. However, it remains one of the few chances we have to see some of the most spectacular fashion from different designers gathered in one place.

While you may not be attending the Oscars, a red dress is certainly a way to grab attention. Wearing red is not for the faint of heart.,it takes a confident woman to wear red. The color red stands for love and romance. Red is feminine, strong, and regal. You cannot fail to notice a woman in red: it’s the color of magnificence, that seduces with all its sunset nuances.
