GOLDEN SKYY, SPREADS UNIVERSAL LOVE AT VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK.

GOLDEN SKYY

Golden Skyy showed on Thursday 10th October at VFW SS20. I attended every night of Vancouver Fashion Week, I  meet some interesting and talented people. Some others attended every night or almost every night, but no one attended with more enthusiasm or positive energy than the group from Golden Skyy Designs. While, many of us network at fashion week, I doubt that any of us meet and engaged with as many as Golden Skyy. The recurring theme I have addressed through my posts on VFW S/S 20 is diversity and Golden Skyy is certainly diverse. Golden Skyy is  a Native American  and shares his Mayan journey and gifts to the world. He comes from San Antonio Texas where he has his studio and fashion school. His Specialty focus is tailoring, couture, digital textiles, Japanese transformational reconstruction & education.

from Vancouver Fashion Week website;

" We promote LOVE, ABUNDANCE, PEACE & UNITY to all walks of life on this planet. We fallow our hearts and share with the world the Audacious approach to modern-day apparel.

1 LOVE has no Race

2 LOVE has no Boarders

3 LOVE has no Gender

4 LOVE has no Religion

We won’t live forever, but our actions will last for ETERNITY!" - Golden Skyy

GOLDEN SKYY ON THE RUNWAY

Love is Universal. This is the theme of Golden Skyy's collection for S/S 2020. Certainly this love was evident in the way they interacted at VFW. I felt that love. Brilliant color, took over the runway from the first blue to the final red.  Jewel colors with shiny mylar like finishes were shown with metallic gold and silver. Saturated color stimulates our senses, and sometimes confronts. While the fear of color is a real thing there was no evidence of it here. The use of color is bold! Many of the garments have a Japanese influence in the pattern and silhouettes. Some of the sleeves are kimono style. At the same time some of the fabrics are rigid and have little movement. Spandex leggings are used through out collection. This collection covers the spectrum of clothing from casual to evening gowns. With pieces worn by both female and male models many of the looks are non-binary gender, what in the 70's was called unisex. The 70's aren't far from mind either with jumpsuits and dresses that could easily be disco wear for a night at Studio 54. While, looking back for influence and inspiration this collection also looks forward into a futuristic world.

WHATS HOT

THE POWER SHOULDER

This 80's inspired trend consists of statement sleeves and shoulders. 2019 has seen the resurgence of the 80s-esque power shoulder trend and I'm completely on board. Inspired by Joan Collins during her Dynasty days, power dressing is well and truly back with a bang. I recall back in my University days taking a break to indulge in the guilty pleasure of "Dynasty". Certainly, during those legendary brawls between Joan Collins and Linda Evans there was a third combatant the shoulders.

To those who accuse fashion of being trivial, I have  this response: it's a bellwether. In the 80's, for instance, the shoulder pads of Thierry Mugler and Claude Montana reflected the fact that, out in the world, women were beginning to assert themselves. How appropriate for powerful shoulders to reappear with a force during the time of the "Me Too".  Moreover, strong women powerful wear strong powerful clothes. Fashion of the times reflect the mood of society and the mood is power shoulders.
