Flawless Faux – Style Guide

Atop the list for Winter Staples sits a well structured, versatile and chic Black Moto Jacket. Something that’ll make you feel badass when you pair it with a sturdy pair of combat boots, but could still effortlessly spruce up a cute skater dress with heels! If you’re at all a basic girl and hate the idea of multiple massive jackets hanging in and devouring your limited wardrobe space, you should definitely consider keeping only the staples that can pair well with pretty much anything under the Sun. Just pack everything else and ship it all off to retirement!  : P

What , Why and for Whom

For an easy going, low maintenance person, I’d highly recommend finding a Faux Leather Jacket. Not only is it eco-conscious and a highly ethical choice to make, it’s also sizeably easy to care for!
A Leather Jacket would set you back by at least 5 times of what you’d need to shell out for a Faux Leather Jacket, but might just last you longer. So it’s a sensible purchase for somebody who doesn’t have a change of heart wrt style all that often….or has enough money to spare, if that just might happen!
A Faux Leather Jacket however, is inexpensive, easy to store (in the hot months) and versatile enough to throw over on a windy spring day. Vegan Leather, in the recent years, has advanced by leaps and bounds. More often than not, an average person wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference … unless they happen to land their sights on the price tag!

Perfect Fit

For somebody on the leaner, more rectangular side like me, I’d advise a well fitted and structured jacket that ends right at the hip bone and is designed to slightly clinch the waist. This will give the illusion of a curvier appearance!
If you look in closely, the one I’m wearing has a U hem. A rounded waist line on a jacket will successfully make your waist and hips look fuller and more in proportions!
If you’re naturally curvy inclining towards the fuller side, the good news is that most designs of moto jackets out there (at least in the current Indian market) will flatter you amazingly well! Just try to stray from cropped ones, and you’ll be just fine!
Try looking for a length that ends right above the usual length of tops that you’re accustomed to wear, with preferably big collars.
If when you zip up the jacket, you are still able to see plenty of your neck and décolleté, that’s icing on the Faux-Cake!  ; )

Details

A basic, almost characterless Faux Leather Jacket, will go a looooong way.
Seasons will pass, fads will come and go, but the beauty and timelessness of a basic Black Faux Leather Jacket will carry you through and through!
But if you like your details, adornments and characteristic traits, here’s what you can opt for-
  • Off centred zipper – An oldie, but a sure shot goodie. Looks brilliant and chic both ways – open or shut!
  • Hardware – If you find a neutral black metal on a jacket, you’ve kind of hit the jackpot! In the next best scenario, I prefer Silver metal on Black. You can still pair it with Yellow metal accessories, you just won’t be able to over do your golds with chunky earrings, layered necklaces and what not!
  • Pockets – Even if you carry your bag everywhere, it’s still a nice functional addition to the outfit. A pocketless jacket might end up looking too void and empty…not to mention, it’s always a good idea to keep your options open! I find it extremely comforting to dunk my hands into jacket pockets in the unbearable Delhi-Winters….even if I’m wearing woollen gloves already!  : D
  • Surface Design – A little detailing on the sleeves/back can really help in steering away from a boring and mundane style.

Brand Suggestions

My favs- Zara and H&M will usually keep a few of these throughout the year. Mango, Forever New and Promod if you like their designs and quality (Mango is great quality, but their smallest sizes of topwear/outerwear are usually too big on me). Bershka, Amisu (New Yorker) and New Look if you don’t mind buying online and risking paying customs!
Until you find that one true love, don’t shy away from kissing a few frogs by trying out everything you like in stores.
Somethings are easier in practicality than in theory. When it fits….it just really does fit!
