Beat the Winter Blues with Radical Self Care

Self care and self love have been the new buzz words circling around the web since the end of last year and while I’m just as excited as the next person to try a new way to better my life, I think it’s important to take a step back and define first what we mean by “self care”.

To me self Love is all about being true to yourself at any given moment, wether that is saying no to a dinner invitation with your friends on a night when you’re tired, opting for a healthier lunch instead of fast food, treating yourself to gorgeous flowers from time to time (roses, anyone? ), taking a short break to enjoy a walk in nature or simply shutting off the tv and opting for learning a new class instead that will expand your brain.

Wear something cozy and fun

Fashion to me is one of my favorite methods of beating the Winter Blues.

Even though in the past few years I’ve been incredibly fortunate to not have to deal with snow and freezing temperatures due to the fact that I live in Florida, the weather here still gets cold and everybody who knows me knows that I also posses no capability of retaining body heat. A.k.a. I’m cold all the time. So my absolute favorite thing to do during the Winter months is to snuggle up in sweater dresses and oversized sweaters and – of course – hide my entire body – if possible – in a huge scarf.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much this new scarf from Burberry means to me. I fell in love with it from the first second I saw it and ever since then, the two of us have been virtually inseparable. I’m completely fascinated with the combination of motifs and the exuberant explosion of colors. I’ve been utterly enamoured with clashing patterns lately and wearing them makes me feel cheerful even in the gloomiest of days.

Introduce a few minutes of "me" time in your busy schedule

Sometimes Most of the times life gets hectic. Our schedules just keep getting busier and the demands higher and higher.

That’s why I think it’s very important to always pause for a second and retreat in order to regain balance and clarity. Spa days are always a great idea, but even if you can’t make it to the spa, you can always transform your own home into a mini spa.

My favorite way to relax and unwind after a crazy week is to take a bubble bath, put on a hyaluronic acid mask, light up some candles and play chillout music. Music is something that always accompanies me regardless of what I do, it just helps me be more creative and allows me to get in the state of flow, where the entire world with its problems simply just melts away.

Pick up a hobby or do something that makes your soul happy

Even though my job is to be creative around the clock, I don’t feel like it’s work because whenever I get to do what I love time and space just disappear, leaving room only for the pure joy of creation.

That’s why whenever I feel the winter blues creeping up on me, I pick up a paint brush or my iPad and I start painting. Art truly is a great form of therapy and I don’t think a lot of people truly understand the importance of it.

Of course, your hobby doesn’t have to be creative in the traditional sense – it can be anything, from playing a sport to collecting vinyls, fixing old cars or baking. Anything that makes you sing a little happy song inside

There’s no need to add that besides all these things, there also the obvious ways of taking care of yourself like making sure you get plenty of sleep, drinking LOTS of water and exercising.

So now what are your favorite ways of practicing self care and beating the winter blues? Let me know in the comments below!

As always, much love
