Unsettled Threads: The Plaid Shirt

Hello darlings! As you probably know by now from my Instagram adventures, I am currently working, traveling and vacationing in Europe at the moment – in Iassy, Romania, to be more specific – where I’ll be posting from for the next couple of weeks. How fun!!

Europe has such an unbeatable charm – a combination of old and new, history and future, art and technology – that makes it a place impossible to forget or take out of your heart. Romania especially is such a dear place for me, not only because my family still lives there, and I still have great friends; but also because it has remained more pure and dedicated in preserving its culture while still being progressive and adopting new trends.

So since I was in a little bit of a shopping spree (oops, I can’t help myself!) and absorbing the culture, trends and beauty at every step, I wanted to write a new article from the Unsettled Threads series. If in prior editions I talked about the must have open toe black ankle booties, in this edition I’ll be talking about the absolute must have in any fall / winter wardrobe: THE PLAID SHIRT.

Why is the plaid shirt a must have?

First of all because it is very casual. Easy to dress up or down, the plaid shirt is your best friend when traveling, because it’s easy to pack, it’s not pretentious, and it can be quickly changed if the need arises.

I found this shirt at Stradivarius and I instantly fell in love with the ruffle and lace-up details, as well as the combination of cool and warm tones.

To me this combination of colors just speaks: autumn.

I can envision this shirt dressed up with a flared leather skirt, a mustard yellow or orange oversized cardigan, corset belt and over the knee boots. Or worn casually with skinny jeans, hi-tops and a pearl embellished cardigan. As so… (photo on the right)

Maybe it sounds a little bit cliche, but I also think plaid shirts are a must have around the winter Holiday season. A nice plaid pattern that includes a lot of red is my go-to for Christmas and New Year’s.

I’ve always had a weakness for the signature Burberry plaid print which makes any gloomy day feel like a walk around Buckingham Palace, or the Lee Cooper or Abercrombie & Fitch androgynous style plaid, great for wearing at work or while you’re grabbing coffee with your girl friend(s).
