With the election right around the corner, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is making every effort to regain the lead over Hillary Clinton – even declaring he is a “big fan of Hindu.”

Trump spent much of Saturday night working to woo an unlikely group of supporters – brown-skinned Hindu-Americans seeking expedited green cards (among other things).

The Republican Hindu Coalition held the Hindus United Against Terror rally on Saturday night in Edison, N.J. The event featured Bollywood stars dancing in support of republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

But after spending the entire first part of Saturday campaigning in New Hampshire and Maine where he spoke to predominantly white crowds, the candidate remained mum about the New Jersey event – without a single acknowledgment of the group or event on his Twitter and Facebook accounts.

It’s no surprise he’s remained silent about it when Trump’s campaign appeals largely to a group of white working class men and women who are for the most part outspoken against immigrants and people of color.

This is why a vast majority of Indian Americans are supporting Hillary Clinton.  According to the Washington Post, an overwhelming 70 percent have offered their support to the democratic candidate, while only 7 percent have rallied behind Trump.

What is it that made Donald Trump so appealing to the small number of Indians?

For the Hindu Republican Coalition, it’s Trump’s anti-terrorist and anti-bureaucracy rhetoric that fall in line with  that of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“I look forward to working with Prime Minister Modi who has been very energetic in reforming India’s bureaucracy,” Trump said on Saturday. “I applaud him for doing so and I look forward to doing some serious bureaucratic trimming right here in the United States.”

Other topics covered by Trump at Saturday’s event included business tax reform, regulatory reforms and (of course) ISIS.
