Vitry Nail Repair Care Review and Photos: Original and Sensitive Formula

I love Nail polish and love applying it, but I have to say my nails are not always in tip-top condition so when I was asked to try Vitry Nail Repair Care I was happy to do so.

The email I received introducing me to the product started that "Vitry’s famous Nail Repair Treatment is known to heal damaged, split, brittle nails in a few weeks. It helps you get naturally strong, healthy nails." Well, that sounded just what I needed.

Vitry Nail Treatment

My nails, although they grow very quickly, have a tendency to be brittle and they do split and crack. So, the idea that this treatment could alleviate these issues was very reassuring. I was asked if I wanted to try the original formula or the sensitive one. I asked for the original, as I'd never had sensitive nails.

The treatment came, and I was surprised that I got a full size 10 ml bottle of original formula and an additional, smaller 4 ml of the sensitive formula. It also came with a small card with application instructions. These said to clean your nails and then protect the cuticle with grease or oil. You then have to apply a coat of Vitry and allow to dry. After two days you have to remove the Vitry with mild Nail Polish remover and repeat the process. It said I should notice the difference in two weeks.

Vitry Nail Treatment

I have to be honest and say that I completely forgot to take a photo of my nails prior to use. But, If I were to describe them I would say, long but with uneven surface and a couple of splits at the sides. They were also not very strong. I can bend my nails quite easily which can cause the nail polish to crack and chip.

So, I followed the instructions and cleaned my nails and protected the cuticles. I then applied the Vitry. It is a cloudy colour and is the consistency of nail polish and is applied in exactly the same way. It only took a minute as, unlike nail polish, you are not trying to get a perfect finish.

As soon as I had completed my nails, the pain started. Now I really wasn't expecting this and I have to say it not only took me by surprise but it frightened the crap out of me! I have never felt pain like it in my nails. Until this moment, I didn't even know nails could hurt so much. They literally felt like I had dipped them in burning coals and I just didn't know what to do with myself. The pain was excruciating, but fortunately eased after about an hour, which actually felt like ten!

Once the pain had subsided, my nails were fine, but there was no way I could put up with that again, even for beautiful nails! So, I made the decision not to use it again. But then I remembered that I had the sensitive formula too and decided that before I trash the product I would give this version a try.

So, two days later I removed all the product and tried again with the sensitive version. I have to admit I was really worried about using it as I really didn't think I could bear the pain again, but this time all was okay. I felt slight discomfort, but only for a minute or two and then it was fine. I continued using the sensitive formula for the rest of the trial.

Now, after three weeks of using the product I can say my nails are slightly better than they were before treatment. They are definitely stronger and less brittle and the uneven surface has smoothed over slightly. I don't seem quite so prone to splitting either.

Overall, I'm happy with this product, it has done what it said it would, However, the whole burning feeling and pain I felt after the first usage really scared me and it took all my courage to continue and try the other formula. I have used other nail hardeners and had very similar results, so whether this one is better, I'm really not sure.

If you want to try any of the Vitry products they are available on the Nail Polish Canada website. I personally cannot recommend the original formula for obvious reasons, but the sensitive one worked fine. They have other products too, so take a look and decide if this is the product for you.

Although I received this product free, I do not receive any commission for sales etc.
