How to Design a Creative Brochure?

Brochures represent the brand identity of a company and are one of the important marketing tools that help to build market presence. A good brochure design should strike the right balance between visual appeal and the content.  Prospective customers try to seek as much information as possible from a brochure with respect to the company and the brand value it holds.

A creative brochure will represent the uniqueness of a brand and will engage a customer  into reading further, till the last bit of information is absorbed.

As a designer, it helps to learn about some key elements of creative brochure designs:

1) Knowing the objectives: Before you plunge into designing a brochure, understand the goals of the business and understand it right. Knowing the purpose of your brochure, will help you decide precisely as what kind of layouts, styles can create the right visual.

2) Know your target audience: The brochure design should appeal to the right customers. You should know your target audience, their mindset and come out with a design that will help them tune in better to what the brochure wants to convey.

3) Keep a short list of fonts: A brochure is a critical communication tool. It is all about readability and, legibility of the fonts is a must.  Uniformity and consistency is as important across the different elements of a brochure as it helps to keep the customer engaged in a single stream of communication- the visual, the layout and color scheme, blend in to connect and engage with the reader.

4) Content coordination: Brochure designs should work in close coordination with the content. The placement of the content, images and the placeholders in the layout will give a clear picture on how the outcome will be.  This becomes even more important, when visual communication takes place through the images/photos, which need to be in sync with the copy text.

5) Keep the text simple and short: Content is an integral aspect of brochure design and it is one of the communication channels with the customer. Long winding sentences or complicated words may disengage the reader from your brochure. On the other hand, crisp communication will not only convey the message but also leaves a “takeaway” for the customer.

6) Think ‘out-of-the-box” for your brochure structure: Brochure designs need not stick to the “pamphlet” structure. You could think foldable, linear flaps or even 3-D shapes, which can incite the curiosity of a customer to explore into a “new” format of brochure. The more creative your brochure is, the more unique it will be. And, it is this uniqueness factor, which will stand out in the clutter of brand-images that woo customers with unmatched services or products. If you need to outpace competition, you need to think different.
