Magento 1.x Support Officially ends in November 2018

The time has come. Magento 1.x support will officially end in November 2018. Magento’s own Ben Marks took to Twitter to confirm the end of support date to the world:

As of this moment, 250,000 online stores are powered by Magento 1.x stores, which means that a massive amount of Store owners need to upgrade their store in the next year to stay up to date with the latest security and feature releases. Staying on Magento 1.x will mean your store will no longer be updated and there also will not be any more security patch releases. This essentially means that whenever a new leak is discovered in Magento 1.x after November 2018, Magento will no longer fix it and your store will stay vulnerable. Therefore we recommend any Magento 1.x store owners to start making the switch from Magento 1.x to Magento 2.x immediately.

Switching process from Magento 1 to Magento 2

Switching your store from M1 to M2 can be a very tedious process, especially if you own a large store. We highly recommend you start this process as soon as possible because you will almost certainly run into bugs/problems during the migration which will take time to fix. Therefore, we also recommend that you let a Certified Magento professional do the migration for you. We have come across a lot of store owners who landed in a nightmare when they let a regular developer migrate and handle their store. We at Coding Basics are firm believers of the saying: “If you think hiring a professional is expensive, wait till you hire an amateur.”

When it comes to handling large sets of customer data and product data, a simple mistake can corrupt the whole database of the store which essentially would mean you will have to start over from scratch if the proper precautions aren’t taken.

Let us know in the comments below how the migration from M1 to M2 went for you, and what advice you would like to give other store owners so everyone can benefit from your experience!
