Welcome to our 10 Step SEO Process blog post series. In this post, we will be discussing Landing Page Optimization, which is Step 3.
We also have a supporting YouTube video in the event you would rather watch the content!
1. What is Landing Page Optimization?
Landing page optimization refers to the process of enhancing or improving each element on your keyword focused landing page to increase conversions. These are also referred to as SEO landing pages.
2. How to Create a Landing Page for Your Website?
After the website audit, we review the complete website and determine what landing pages need to be created or modified to match targeted SEO keywords.
These pages can be a new page, or an existing page on your website – to include your home page. The page tends to have the following attributes:
- Targeted SEO keywords copy
- Headlines and subheadings
- Body copy
- Keyword mentions
- Certifications, awards and testimonials
- Call-to-action buttons
- Quick contact form
- Attractive and relative images
- Social sharing buttons/links
3. Why is Landing Page Optimization Important?
- The page supports your keywords.
- It tells the search engine clearly that your site is working within SEO best practices.
- Landing page copy tends to match what visitors search for so there ultimately is higher page conversion.
- Your website will gain more credibility and trust as a subject matter expert.
- Keyword focused copy makes the website copy speak in more clear terms – rather than going off script. A basic analogy is making sure that your train stays on the tracks.
- SEO landing pages can serve as destination URLs for strong backlinks.
- Great landing pages help solidify keyword rankings in the search results.
4. Caution Tip
Now it’s time for one of the most important parts of our video – the Caution Tip.
The very famous Chinese philosopher Confucias said:
“A smart person learns from his mistakes, but a truly wise person learns from the mistakes of others.”
What I am about to tell you can save you an incredible amount of heartache – and possibly money as well.
Landing page copy needs to be 100% original
- Don’t edit another website’s copy and make it yours
- Don’t copy (sometimes known as pirating) another website’s copy or images directly and add them to your site
At best, you will not get ranked for targeted keywords.
In the middle, you may get a call or a letter from the website you pirated copy from.
At worst, your website can become blacklisted.
5. Smart Tip
Your landing page should load in under two seconds.
Why? Fast loading pages get visited faster, while slower ones have a high bailout rate. Imagine someone on a smartphone waiting over 5 seconds for a page to load… many of these folks will never visit your site.
6. Three Key Takeaways
- SEO landing pages talk to the public and tend to use terms they searched for. This makes for a better user experience and higher page conversion.
- Landing pages should always be written with original content.
- Ensure your page loads fast!
