The OG Weekender: 9.8.17

It’s Friday, which means it’s time for another edition of the OG Weekender! In our weekly rundown, we share the top local events in Dayton as well as interesting updates in design, technology, and marketing. Check out some of our top picks:

Stop by the Dayton Greek Festival

The annual Dayton Greek Festival invites you to “be Greek for the day” with a celebration of Greek food and pastries, boutique gifts, cooking demonstrations, and live music and dance performances. The Greek Festival is held at next to the Dayton Art Institute. Admission is free for children under 12 and $2 for adults and tickets may be used for the entire weekend.

Enjoy the sounds of the annual Guitar Fest

This annual concert has been held at the Stubbs Park Amphitheater for over 30 years and features performances by a dozen professional guitarists from across Ohio performing jazz, blues, folks, classical, and popular music. It’s all happening this Sunday, September 10 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Celebrate the Wright Brothers with the 2017 Aero Carnival

In Dayton, the birthplace of aviation, we love celebrating the legacy of the Wright Brothers. This weekend, the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is sponsoring a free family event at the Huffman Prairie Flying Field, with aircraft displays, carnival games, hayrides and more.

Tech update: Siri’s new voice

When Apple’s iOS 11 software releases this fall, the iPhone virtual assistant will get a few major updates. Among a few new features, Apple’s Siri will have an updated voice, designed to sound less robotic and more like an actual human being. According to Wired, the new voice is easier to listen to, with more pauses, natural speech patterns, and 21 language options. You can see some of Siri’s updates in this sneak preview.

Social media news: More improvements from Instagram

For many Instagram users, the ability to post multiple images in one post was a welcomed feature. Thanks to the new feature, Instagram allowed users to post up to ten images in one post that may be “swiped” through like a photo album. However, the multi-post images restricted users to use Instagram’s original “square” format, which often crops elements of the photo. This week, Instagram removed the restriction, allowing users to post multiple images in either landscape or portrait format. The only catch is you can’t mix and match formats, you must choose just one for up to ten images. Still, it’s a great upgrade to one of the most popular social media platforms around.

Have a wonderful weekend!
