Windows Hyper-V Manager – Virtual Machine Creation Guide

If you’re a system administrator or IT administrator, then you know that creating virtual machines is an important part of your job. In this guide, we’ll show you how to create a virtual machine in Windows Hyper-V Manager. We’ll also show you how to configure the virtual machine’s settings and add it to the Hyper-V manager console. Let’s get started!

How do I create a new virtual machine in Windows Hyper-V Manager?

    1. First, open Windows Hyper-V Manager. This can be done by opening the Start Menu, and searching for “Hyper-V Manager“.
  1. Once Hyper-V Manager is open, select the “New” option from the top menu bar, then click “Virtual Machine“.
  2. A new window will open. On the “Before You Begin” page, click “Next“.
  3.  On the “Specify Generation” page, select the generation of the virtual machine you want to create. For most purposes, “Generation 2” will suffice. Once you’ve made your selection, click “Next“.
  4. On the “Specify Name and Location” page, enter a name for your new virtual machine. Then, select the location on your hard drive where you want the virtual machine’s files to be stored. Once you’re satisfied with your selections, click “Next“.
  5.  On the “Specify Memory Size” page, enter the amount of RAM you want to allocate to your virtual machine. The default is 1024 MB, but you can enter a different amount if you wish. Once you’ve made your selection, click “Next“.
  6. On the “Configure Networking” page, select the networking options for your virtual machine. For most purposes, the default options will suffice. Once you’ve made your selections, click “Next“.
  7. On the “Connect Virtual Hard Disk” page, select whether you want to create a new virtual hard disk or use an existing one. For most purposes, it is recommended that you create a new virtual hard disk. Once you’ve made your selection, click “Next“.
  8. On the “Specify Name and Location” page, enter a name for your new virtual hard disk. Then, select the location on your hard drive where you want the virtual hard disk’s files to be stored. Once you’re satisfied with your selections, click “Next“.
  9. On the “Specify Disk Size” page, enter the size of the virtual hard disk you want to create. The default is 40 GB, but you can enter a different amount if you wish. Once you’ve made your selection, click “Next“.
  10. On the “Configure Advanced Features” page, select any additional options you want to enable for your virtual machine. For most purposes, the defaults will suffice. Once you’ve made your selections, click “Next“.
  11. On the “Review Your Settings” page, review the settings you have selected for your virtual machine. If everything is correct, click “Finish“. Your new virtual machine will now be created!

Creation a Virtual Machine with Hyper-V Manager

Open Hyper-V Manager,  On the left, select the Actions section, find New, and click Virtual Machine.

Click Next

Give the Virtual Machine a name and specify its location where you want it to store.

Choose the type of generation you would prefer to use and Click Next

Specify the amount of memory

Select a virtual switch and click Next to continue

Put the HDD size and click Next to continue

Select the ISO Installation media file and click Next

Review your options and click Finish

Assign IP address in Virtual Machine with Hyper-V Manager

For assigning IP we need to login into the server then right-click on the Local Area Network Icon on the right corner then click on Open Network and Sharing Center.

Then Click on Change adapter settings

Right Click on the Network Adapter and click on Properties.

Select Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) then click on Properties.

Now add the Ip address and then click on OK to continue.

Install required Server Roles and Features in new Virtual Machine

Also install any required Software, and Microsoft Updates from the internet to complete the new VM deployment

For Installing the required Server Role and Feature, Open The Server Manager and then click on Manage and then Click on Add Role and Feature.

Click on Next to continue.

Select Role-based or feature-based installation and click on Next to Continue.

Select the roles which you want to add and then you can click on Next to continue adding the roles for the Server.

Tick beside Restart the destination server automatically if required and then click on Install, your required roles will be added to the server.

  2. Once Hyper-V Manager is open, select the virtual machine you want to configure from the list of available machines.
  3. From the top menu bar, select “Action“, thenSettings“.
  4. In the “Settings” window, select “Network Adapter” from the list of options on the left.
  5. On the right side of the window, you will see the network settings for your virtual machine. From here, you can change the network adapter type, virtual switch, MAC address, and other network settings.
  6.  Once you have made the desired changes, click “OK” to save your changes. Your virtual machine’s network settings will now be updated!

How do I create and configure a virtual disk for a virtual machine in Windows Hyper-V Manager?

  1. First, open Windows Hyper-V Manager. This can be done by opening the Start Menu, and searching for “Hyper-V Manager“.
  2. Once Hyper-V Manager is open, select the virtual machine you want to configure from the list of available machines.
  3. From the top menu bar, select “Action“, then “Settings“.
  4. In the “Settings” window, select “Storage” from the list of options on the left.
  5. On the right side of the window, you will see the storage settings for your virtual machine. From here, you can add new virtual disks, or configure existing ones.
  6. To create a new virtual disk, click “Add“, then select “Hard Disk” from the list of options.
  7. In the “New Virtual Disk Wizard“, specify the size, location, and other settings for your new virtual disk. Once you have made your selections, click “Finish“. Your new virtual disk will now be created!
  8. To configure an existing virtual disk, select the disk you want to modify from the list, then click “Configure“.
  9. In the “Configure Virtual Disk Wizard“, you can change the size, location, and other settings for your virtual disk. Once you have made your changes, click “Finish“. Your virtual disk will now be updated.

How do I delete a virtual machine in Windows Hyper-V Manager?

  1. First, open Windows Hyper-V Manager. This can be done by opening the Start Menu, and searching for “Hyper-V Manager“.
  2. Once Hyper-V Manager is open, select the virtual machine you want to delete from the list of available machines.
  3. From the top menu bar, select “Action“, then “Delete“.
  4. A confirmation window will appear. In this window, you can choose to delete just the virtual machine, or also delete the virtual disk files associated with the machine. If you want to delete both the machine and the disk files, select the “Delete virtual machine and its associated files” option. Once you have made your selection, click “Delete“. Your virtual machine will now be deleted!

How do I export a virtual machine in Windows Hyper-V Manager?

  1. First, open Windows Hyper-V Manager. This can be done by opening the Start Menu, and searching for “Hyper-V Manager“.
  2. Once Hyper-V Manager is open, select the virtual machine you want to export from the list of available machines.
  3. From the top menu bar, select “Action“, thenExport“.
  4. In the “Export Virtual Machine” window, specify the location where you want to export the machine. Once you have selected a location, click “Export“. Your virtual machine will now be exported!
  5. You can also choose to export just the virtual machine settings, by selecting the “Export only the VM settings” option. This will create a .vmcx file that contains the settings for your virtual machine, which can be imported into another Hyper-V host.
