4 fresh faces & our award nominated healthcare app

Our new offices feel like home already

Busy start to the autumn for everyone at Secret Source, as we settle in to our new offices in downtown Las Palmas. The kitchen’s plumbed in, we have a functioning coffee bar, some cool new office furniture, a barbeque installed up on the terrace and there are only occasional bursts of powertool use, as the builders finish up.

The new place certainly feels busy, as our large meeting area and seminar rooms are proving popular with the growing number of tech meetups in town while our own Ted’s Talks are attracting growing numbers of local developers every week – Read more about them here.

Say hello to our new signings

We welcomed 4 new members to the Secret Source team over the summer. Developers Peter, Sam and Luke have joined our coding bench while Kosovka has begun working with our design team.

Programmer Peter Szinek is a long time digital nomad, whose love of the sunshine and young family led him to call Las Palmas home, at least for now. Bali’s loss is our gain because Peter’s hugely experienced with Ruby, Rails and JavaScript. Now he’s made his base on the island we’re really pleased to have him on our RoR team.

Sam Ashton joins us direct from the highly rated Edge Hill University in Liverpool, where he studied for a BSc in computing after completing a practical apprenticeship in coding at shopping channel QVC. Sam’s building up his experience with Laravel and working with our newly created PowerMe team.

Yorkshireman Luke McQuade is a C# and .Net specialist with a background in Application Lifecycle Management (ALM). Fortunately for us, his love of trail running made it easy to lure Luke away from London, where he was working on financial software for a large Japanese banking group.

Designer and fine art graduate Kosovka Simmović is our newest colleague. Her design experience comes directly from working with startups in the delivery sector and ecommerce. As well as a great eye for what looks good online, Kosovka has a real urge to use her talents as a graffiti artist and liven up some of the more inviting wallspace around our new offices.

Secret Source built healthcare app nominated for international award

The final thing we wanted to share this month is our immense pride in discovering an app built by Secret Source developers – to help NHS providers locate spare bed capacity during busy periods – has been nominated for an international healthcare award.

Developed in partnership with Wessex Clinical Networks, the WebBeds application is included in a shortlist of 9 for this year’s HSJ Awards, in the category “Improving Care with Technology”.

WebBeds is just one of 3 health-related apps we’ve built over the last year and while we always enjoy working on projects that improve people’s lives, this kind of recognition really made everyone at Secret Source, especially our wonderfully talented app team, especially proud.

If you have an idea you think could become the next big thing, we can help you make it happen. For an informal chat about your project or the digital outsourcing services we provide, give us a call and ask for Richard, Rachel or Matt.
