How to Setup PHP Development Environment



Hello dear readers! welcome back to another section of my tutorial on PHP. In this tutorial guide, we will be discussing about how to Set up the PHP Environment on different OS.

In order to develop and run the PHP Web pages, three important components needs to be installed on your system.

  • Web Server - PHP virtually work with all Web Servers, including the Microsoft's Internet Information Server (IIS) but then the most often used is the freely available Apache Webserver. You can download Apache for free from their official Apache website.
  • Database - PHP will work virtually with all database softwares, including Sybase and Oracle database but the most commonly used is the freely available MySQL database. You can download MySQL for free from the MySQL official website.
  • PHP Parser - To process PHP script instructions, then a parser must be installed to produce Html output that can be sent to the web browser. This tutorial post will guide you on how to install PHP Parser on your system.

PHP Parser Installation

Before proceeding, it is very important to make sure you have a proper environment set up on your machine to develop your web application using PHP.

Type the following address into your web browser's address bar.

http://127.0.0.1/info.php

If this displays a page showing your PHP installation related information, then it simply means that you have both PHP and Webserver installed properly on your system. Otherwise, you have to follow given procedure to install PHP on your system.

PHP Installation on Various Platforms

This section of this tutorial will guide you to install and configure PHP over the following platforms below -

  • PHP Installation on Linux OS with Apache.
  • PHP Installation on Mac OS X with Apache.
  • PHP Installation on Windows NT/2000/XP with IIS.
