Kipling Bags Meet Midjourney AI: An Experiment in Ad Creation

Why Kipling? Why Not? And Why Midjourney AI Image Generator?

Today, in a moment of sheer boredom, I decided to create an ad for bags using the Midjourney AI image generator. And not just any bags, but Kipling bags. Why Kipling, you ask? Well, because an email notification from LinkedIn told me that Kipling is hiring a Global Digital Graphic Designer. And what better way to test an AI image generator than with a real task that I set for myself? Plus, who can resist those cute little monkey keychains?

The Struggle is Real: Initial Challenges and Overcoming Them

At first, I had some difficulties in creating the ideal atmosphere: futuristic landscape, futuristic models, and clothing. I added one of the Kipling bags to the prompts, but the desired result was as elusive as a cat in a game of hide and seek.

The Creative Process: More Twists and Turns Than a Mystery Novel

Finally, I decided to create the visual and add the original bag later. However, since this was a quick test, I decided to add the logo to the generated bags. I “removed” the logo from one of the bags and simply put it on the generated images. Of course, if I had spent more time choosing the appropriate original bags to cut out and apply to the generated images, everything would have looked even better. But hey, who has time for that? I’m pretty chuffed with the results as they are. And, this is just a fun test.

Testing New Features in Midjourney

I also tested new options in Midjourney – Pan (up, down, right, and left) and Zoom. The Zoom option was not of sufficient quality for what I wanted to do. But the Pan option? Now that’s a game-changer! With the simple “Pan left” option, I expanded the 1:1 image format to 16:9. On the left side, another person appeared and completed the image. Perfect.

Additional Enhancements and Thoughts on AI in Creativity: A Love-Hate Relationship

I made additional image extensions using content aware fill in Photoshop (Beta) and I can say that I’m not quite satisfied because I had to use the Clone stamp tool as a better solution on some. I can’t wait for the Beta to be patched up a bit so we can start using it in all its glory. It’s like waiting for the next season of your favorite show!

Every day I read and hear how AI-generated content will take our jobs and destroy our creativity. I don’t know, it doesn’t seem right to me. It’s like saying that microwave ovens will destroy the art of cooking. I’ve already written about this from the perspective of my profession – a photographer. With the development of technology, we constantly get new tools that we need to get to know and master. Tools that we will use and that it is pointless to resist.

So, bring it on, AI! We’re ready for you!
