Recycled Wooden Box

Keepsake box using strips of solid hardwoods salvaged from one of the recycling outlets here in town. These were cut from scraps of flooring and trim taken from demolished houses. The lid is of red oak and the bottom panel of English oak, a very dark version of oak. The sides are a combination of English oak, quarter-sawn oak, spalted maple, and lyptus, which is a sustainable version of mahogany. A colorful combination of woods, hand-assembled, sanded, and finished with clear satin polyurethane. My plan is to fabricate more of these containers using small strips of different woods laminated together. I like the folk-art look of them, something like a patchwork quilt.
