Preparing for a sketch walk in Jakarta

One of the reasons I started blogging was for it to act as an aid to my unreliable and weak memory, a companion from childhood.  And with age it is only becoming worse!  I’m hoping to plunge back into drawing and painting and plan to resurrect this and other blogs slowly to keep a record once more.  And so onwards to my first post after 7 years!

View from my window on the 30th floor. Lost sight of the fact that the large yellow green space is what has had my attention for days and I had planned to give it ¾s of the page. Added in too many details n lost this focus area. Painted inside the lines. But hey I still liked it enough to post it

Lessons learnt with this attempt
1. Select a portion of what is ahead of you to sketch n not all that you can see!
2. Allocate / mark the area that made you select that portion.
3. Remember inmas lesson n block some colours first not jump in with pen
4. Go from big to small or else you find you cannot add all the things you see
5. You don’t have to add everything you see within an area.
6. Divide your view into parts else areas with many details become larger and occupy more place.
7. Put in figures, cars etc to establish scale.
