Enter the Gungeon & Duelyst Launch

One of our strongest assets at Powerhouse Animation is our diversity of style. We specialize in both limited and traditional animation, and we chose either technique based on a project’s needs. Last week, two extra-special game trailers, animated by yours truly, launched for Devolver Digital’s Enter the Gungeon and Counterplay Games’ Duelyst, both of which display the two sides of our skillful spectrum.

After our killer work on the Broforce trailer, Devolver Digital gave us the chance to work on the video game trailer for another one of their innovative indie games, Enter the Gungeon. We worked closely with the original Gungeon illustrations and adapted them into designs suited for 2D animation. Our team referenced the original pixel art style backgrounds from the game itself to create the scenery of the trailer, which follows the Gungeon characters through various levels from the game. This time around, we combined animation techniques, both Flash-based puppet animation and traditional frame-by-frame animation, to crank the volume up to 11. Check it out below.

While Enter the Gungeon exhibited our talent with flash, our trailer for Counterplay Games’ strategy game Duelyst gave us the chance to show off our skill with detailed character designs and high paced, complex action sequences & fight choreography. Our team carefully adapted the original intricate Duelyst concept art for the cinema, making sure to capture every detail in the characters’ clothing and armor. After blocking out the fight sequence in thumbnails, our team spared no effort animating the epic fight and impressive effects. Watch the cinematic trailer below.

Each trailer shows off our skill at both puppet animation in Flash and frame-by-frame traditional animation, not to mention our talented compositors who really put the polish on each piece. Enter the Gungeon is available to purchase on Steam, and Duelyst is available to download for free on their website.
