InMotionNow Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary With A Milestone Year

The last 12 months have proven to be a banner year for Inmotionnow, a leading provider of workflow management software for Creative and marketing teams. 2019 wraps up the company’s 20th anniversary and inMotionNow will close the books with more than 200% revenue growth. The success has earned inMotionNow a spot on two distinct lists of the fastest-growing companies in North Carolina and North America.

“There’s never been a better time to be working with marketing and creative teams,” said inMotionNow CEO Ben Hartmere. “Businesses are increasingly relying on marketing and creative teams to build the content that fuels the campaigns that drive sales, leads, and awareness. This requires better collaboration and a streamlined workflow to keep up the pace without sacrificing quality.”

Some of the key highlights and milestones the company has achieved include:

1) 20th Anniversary

inMotionNow traces its roots back to a company called Proof-it-Online, founded in 1999. Proof-it-Online was the first to leverage what was then a nascent internet to streamline the proofing process of static creative projects, such as images and photos. In 2009, the company launched inMotion to facilitate end-to-end creative workflow, helping marketing and creative teams manage projects from request to final approval.

A few years later, in 2012, the company rebranded as inMotionNow and built out a comprehensive suite of workflow and project management tools to meet the needs of designers, creatives, and marketers. In 2018, the company raised a growth round of funding from Level Equity Partners and released its next-generation creative workflow platform called inMotion ignite.

2) Key product enhancements

In 2019, the company accelerated its software development to enhance the inMotion ignite product and expand the project management capabilities it provides include:

  • Campaign management organizes the work of the many individual creative projects that often comprise large multichannel marketing campaigns
  • Dependencies for project management helps creative directors prioritize creative work, especially where one creative task is dependent on another
  • inMotion ignite Review and Approval App for iOS enables team members and leaders across the business to review and approve creative assets on a mobile app
  • New Gantt views and automatic date calculations allows creative project managers to quickly determine deadlines for projects and provide a simple overview of work in progress

Largely driven by customer feedback and industry best practices, inMotionNow has big ambitions for product development in 2020.

3) Recognition for fast growth

inMotionNow’s focus on delivering value to customers manifested in several ways in the company’s overall performance. inMotionNow earned a spot on the 2019 North Carolina Middle-Market Fast 40, by North Carolina Business Magazine, which identifies businesses that have experienced “a prolonged period of growth.”

Outside of North Carolina, inMotionNow was recognized on the Deloitte’s 2019 Technology Fast 500. Deloitte’s listing recognizes the 500 fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications, life sciences, and energy tech companies in North America. inMotionNow was one of just three companies based in the Raleigh-Durham area named to the list – and just one of nine across the State of North Carolina.

4) 2019 In-House Creative Management Report

For the second consecutive year, inMotionNow partnered with InSource, a non-profit professional organization for in-house creative teams, to field the 2019 In-House Creative Management Report. This landmark survey and report aggregated answers from over 500 respondents that work in creative and marketing.  Among the key findings were:

  • the top challenges facing creatives
  • insights for leaders for building effective in-house creative agencies
  • notable benefits and payoffs for aligning creative and marketing teams
  • metrics leading creatives use to measure creative efficiency

Work on the 2020 In-House Creative Management survey is already underway.

5) Customer conferences and tradeshows

More than 100 inMotionNow customers gathered in Raleigh, NC for the second annual inMomentum customer conference. The event brings together experts in creative operations and workflow to present tips and best practices from the field – and also present a product roadmap and gather feedback.  Keynote speakers included:

  • Sam Harrison, author of IdeaSelling: Successfully Pitch Your Creative Ideas to Bosses, Clients… and contributor to Fast Company
  • Justin Ahrens, author of Life Kerning: Creative Ways to Fine Tune Your Perspective on Career and Life and principal and creative director for the creative agency Rule29
  • Marie Knight Joshi, Strategic Corporate Partnerships, Adobe

Several customers also co-presented sessions with inMotionNow at leading industry conferences. These included panels at HOW Design Live and the Adobe MAX conference:

  • Ignite Creativity Together: Bridging the Gap Between Marketing and Creative. This session at the 2019 HOW Design Live conference (show recap; video recap) featured inMotionNow customers Cassidee Owens, creative services manager for the Denver Broncos (see case study) and Courtney Brown, creative projects manager for the Minnesota Timberwolves (see case study).  The session conference room was packed – standing room only – and each panelist provided examples of how their creative teams have solved some of the challenges facing creatives, better aligned their teams with marketing, and ultimately improved business results.
  • Analytical Creativity: The Key to Successful Collaboration with Marketing. This Adobe MAX session featured inMotionNow customer Colleen Phelan, director of Marketing Services and Web Customer Experience at Delta Vacations (see case study). She describes how her organization produces some 3,000 creative projects including multi-channel, complex integrated marketing campaigns.

“We’re grateful to our employees, customers, partners, and investors for their teamwork and trust which is what made 2019 so fruitful,” added Hartmere. “They provide the many reasons inMotionNow has for even greater optimism in the New Year.”
