Getting the Most from my Paletteful Packs

Paletteful Packs

This year I decided to indulge myself with a subscription to Paletteful Packs – an art supply subscription service.

Every month a new box of art Supplies arrives on my doorstep packed in a bright green box and colorful shredded paper.

Such a treat – markers and pens and inks and paper and paint and brushes and all sorts of other cool things.

I’ve used some of the supplies immediately but some have languished unused and untested.

Winter Jumpstart

Aotearoa Quilters (the national organization for makers of quilts of all types from tradition to art) are holding a Winter Jumpstart challenge from August 1-31.

Sounded like fun.

Although last year Aotearoa Quilters held a 100 day project and I managed to make it only 30 days in and then quit. I don’t think I even bothered to write a blog post about it. As I said back in 2018 – I’ve had my fill of 100 day projects for a while.

But thirty days sounded like a good investment.

Question was – what could I do that was meaningful, a good use of time and something I could complete?

I already have a very clear plan and direction for my studio work for the rest of the year and any project I thought up was going to detract from my plans.

I was starting to wonder if signing up was a good idea.

Happily I finally hit upon the idea of doing something my new art supplies.

The new art supplies are piling up

My Winter Jumpstart Project

My plan is to experiment and play with all of my new supplies.

In addition I want to figure out where I’m going to store all of these wonderful supplies so a few of my days will be focused on sorting out my art desk.

In addition I need to find all the cards that arrive with the supplies that explaining what they are and ideas on how to use them. They stopped sending these cards in the boxes and now post them on their website. But the old ones are missing so I have some investigation to do.

I may, or may not, make some art to sell on notecards during the month. I bought the notecards a few months back so depending on how to experimenting goes I might move into some more polished work.

Day 1

Day 1 – Posca Paint Markers and Pastels

Today I opened up my Posca Paint Markers and pastels. I think these arrived in the March.

They are quite fun (if not exactly my colors – although they look a lot better in this photo than I expected) and the white uni-ball pen works well over the top to make marks.

They sent posca pastels along with the markers. I need to play around with them more to see what they can do.

Day 2

Day 2 – more paint markers and pastels with the addition of color pencil

Follow my Progress

I’ll be sharing images of my project occasionally on instagram – mostly as stories – mostly because I playing around with all the features of instagram and this feels like a good fit.

At the end of the month I’ll share a compilation of them here on the blog.

Follow me on instagram.
