Using the Thread

Thinking Where to Next? I wonder what happens when you let the Thread do most of the work?

I was curious. So last year I made a few paintings (in my Travel Pattern Series) that had very little or no piecing and the paint and the thread did all of the work to create a composition.

This means instead of sewing together many Smaller pieces of fabric to form the basis of my compositions, I use just one or two. Or in the case of this textile painting – there are 4 – the large green square and the 3 smaller blue squares.

It’s a leap of faith at the start hoping that something good will result from this blank canvas. I build the layers and the composition as I’m sewing.

And so far the results are better than I had hoped. So naturally you will see more of these coming in 2021!

Sold – Where to Next?

This textile found a new home within a few days of completing it. It was purchased by Jennifer Borek after she saw it in my studio newsletter. *
