2024 Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 Watch

The latest addition to Omega’s esteemed collection, the Speedmaster Dark Side Of The Moon Apollo 8, has arrived with a flourish, marking its place among the most expensive watches in the world. This 2024 iteration is not only a tribute to the pioneering Apollo 8 mission but also a symbol of Omega’s relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence in watchmaking.

At the heart of this watch lies the METAS-certified Calibre 3869 movement, a masterpiece that beautifully integrates technology and artistry. The movement showcases the Earth-facing lunar surface on one side, while the enigmatic “dark side” of the moon graces the back. This intricate design is rendered in stunning detail through advanced laser engraving, visible through the skeletonized dial and sapphire caseback.

The watch’s 44.25mm case, polished bezel, and caseback are all expertly crafted from separate blocks of black ceramic, exuding an air of sophisticated masculinity and making it one of the best black watches for men. The bezel is particularly noteworthy, filled with white Grand Feu enamel, a detail that speaks to the watch’s exquisite craftsmanship.

Adding to its unique character, the small seconds hand at 9 o’clock, fashioned from Grade 5 Titanium, takes the shape of the iconic Saturn V rocket. This patent-pending design element is a subtle nod to the watch’s space heritage. The entire ensemble sits on a perforated rubber strap with yellow stitching, complementing the yellow accents on the central seconds and subdial hands.

The Speedmaster Dark Side Of The Moon Apollo 8 is part of Omega’s larger Apollo collection, which includes models dedicated to Apollo 11, Apollo 13/Snoopy, Apollo 17, and the original Apollo 8. This new model retains the beloved features of its predecessor while introducing thoughtful updates in design and deeper mechanical enhancements.

One of the notable changes is the redesigned case, now closer to the proportions and shapes of vintage models. The dial is protected by sapphire crystal with AR coating, and the caseback features a transparent crystal, surrounded by a black ceramic element engraved with memorable inscriptions related to the Apollo 8 mission.

Inside, the new calibre 3869 movement demonstrates Omega’s commitment to technical prowess, including the Co-Axial escapement and Master Chronometer certification, ensuring impressive resistance to magnetic fields. This hand-wound chronograph movement offers a 50-hour power reserve and is meticulously decorated with a moon texture, visible on the back.

Presented on a 21/18mm perforated black and yellow rubber strap, the watch now includes a folding clasp made from ceramized titanium. Priced at EUR 15,700, CHF 13,500, or USD 14,300, this non-limited edition timepiece is a testament to Omega’s enduring legacy in watchmaking and its connection to space exploration.

The Omega Speedmaster Dark Side Of The Moon Apollo 8 is more than just a timekeeper; it is a piece of history, a work of art, and a marvel of engineering. It stands as a symbol of human achievement and the unending quest for discovery, rightfully earning its place among the most expensivewatches in the world.
