One of the most significant aspects of initiation resulting from my experiences is discovering that ordinary tape recorders and any audio transmitting device can facilitate communication with intelligences representing the ascended realm of existence. Other Divine Dispensations revealing the Oneness of All Spirit in modern times encompass the variety of seance phenomena, psychic abilities, channeling and flying saucer contactee case chronologies. Human beings ignoring, misunderstanding or overlooking Divine Dispensations has resulted with the current culture of corporate thinking and news media regulation, materialism, and giving one's attention to entertainment for a vast proportion of the public (or consumers as they are sometimes called). Entertainment without developing one's knowledge of metaphysical and spiritual aspects of life results with 'entertainment trance.'
My work to bring the documented nonfiction paranormal case study Testament (available in a free Internet edition) to publication in 1997 began upon obtaining the Dictaphone transcribing equipment that provided a better-amplified system than the microcassette recorder for listening to the tapes of my interviews with a family experiencing 'talking poltergeist' phenomena in Oklahoma. Upon listening closely to the tapes, I found that spirit messages often occurred and there was a wide range of unattributed sounds. I would eventually discover that what I labeled as "spirit messages" in my interview transcripts had come to be categorized as an area of paranormal research known as 'Electronic Voice Phenomena' (EVP) yet my discovery and investigation of the phenomena was done without any knowledge that others had discovered and studied it.
Above is shown one of the photos I snapped of the family whom I interviewed during my 1995 investigation of a contemporary 'talking poltergeist' case in Oklahoma. The predominant manifesting entity was known as 'Michael.' When I returned home to Los Angeles and the mysterious phenomena continued to manifest in proximity to myself, I began to comprehend what all the aspects of the 'poltergeist' puzzle signified. (articles include 1, 2, 3, 4) I decided to leave behind my career as a movie studio publicity writer and concentrate on transcribing interviews and entries of my 'audio journal' with the goal of creating the case study book chronicling all that had happened to share what I'd learned with others.
After many months of transcribing work, I recognized that there seemed to be no limit to how recorded spirit utterances can be characterized. Some are so clear that they can sound like an ordinary human voice while others can consist of parts of words or sound like fragmentary jargon — perhaps a phrase lacking at least one syllable. There also was heard occasionally voices that sounded like those of robots. The book transcripts show that the phenomenal messages are usually of short duration.
In preparing the transcript of the Centrahoma interviews, I capitalized the spirit messages and put them in parentheses. When I listened closely to the recordings of my initial two telephone conversations with Maxine Mc Wethy, when she began to answer my question about the spirit demonstrating mind-reading by saying, "Yes," a spirit message could then be detected uttering, "IT'S FU —." I thought the apparent significance at the time signified 'fun' and therefore typed the message in the transcript as: ("IT'S FUN"). As I gained experience, I became more literal so that if this situation were to happen again it would be signified as "IT'S FU[N]." Considering how predominant another word beginning with those two letters is heard in society today is also something to contemplate.
Listening to the 'spirit messages' that at times included word fragments interspersed with the interview commentary, I noticed there were many occasions when what sounded like a word attributed as a spirit message would be followed with one of the interview participants saying the same word, myself included. What seems to be the meaning conveyed by the knowledge indicated by the voices manifesting in this prescient manner is that the Universal Source is involved with the thought processes of each individualized conscious lifeform.
Not all apparent spirit utterances were loud and clear enough to be comprehensible. As I gained experience, there would be other attributes associated with the spirit message phenomena that would continually expand my comprehension of the breadth and complexity of 'spirit' messages/EVP.
While some words and phrases seemed clearly to be spirit messages, others were impossible to know for certain if they might be attributable as an unusual fluctuation of an interview participant's voice. Along with the array of spirit vocalizations on the tapes were a myriad of unattributed sounds. I began keeping a glossary of symbols used in the transcript with the most frequently heard recurring sounds listed first. When it eventually came time to publish the documentary-style collection of unexpurgated interviews and journals that I thought would be the best way of bringing forth my astonishing experiences, I was concerned that prospective readers could be discouraged from purchasing the book due to the inclusion of the spirit messages and unattributed sound symbols yet I felt that this was the only way to provide an accurate transcript.
Once while talking to my friend Larry on the phone, I decided to play for him a brief portion of tape but the tape recorder wouldn't work and I was horrified to see that the tape had become jammed in the machine. This made me very upset because I thought one of the irreplaceable tapes might have been ruined. It also was apparent that 'Michael' had somehow caused the jam to indicate that I shouldn't be using the tapes in this manner. Larry's comments led me to think that perhaps he could understand how I perceived Michael because Larry was aware, as he told me on the phone, that we're all living different incarnations simultaneously because our spirit inside us is not limited by space and time. Around this period, Larry was hired to work as a unit publicist on "Poltergeist: The Legacy."
Listening to the interview microcassettes with the Dictaphone transcribing equipment made it easier to discern what was being said during the Centrahoma interviews although some parts of the tapes still remained hard to distinguish. The pedal made it easy to rewind the tapes for repeated listening of the difficult portions, including Bill's comments as sometimes his voice wasn't much more than a whisper. Also, there could be disruptive noise from Twyla's daughter Megan.
Two recurrent messages on tapes were "YEAH" and "YOU KNOW," words that Twyla told me that her family often heard Michael say. One prominent voice heard repeatedly had a low-pitched whispering tone that contrasted with how the family had described Michael's voice as being "high-pitched." When I'd asked the family if any one of them had ever experienced any missing time periods usually associated with UFO encounters, they hadn't recalled any such missing time but an EVP could be heard on the tape saying "YOU ARE RIGHT NOW." This mention of 'missing time' seemed to refer to additional time. The published tape transcripts don't document the periods when the tape recorder was turned off. I was able to accomplish an astonishing amount of interviewing, as readers will notice upon reading Testament.
The spirit messages obviously related to what was being said during the interviewing such as "metallic-sounding spirit giggling" being heard while Maxine and I were considering what might be taking place in the attic of her home. In the past, I'd read a description of spirit voices having a "metallic" quality in reports such as the 'Bell Witch' talking poltergeist case but I hadn't previously been able to know what the adjective was meant to convey until hearing this instance of EVP. Some of the EVP and unattributed sounds served to emphasize particular comments made by interview participants. Other messages seemed to involve my personal circumstances at the time I was listening to the tapes.
I was astonished to hear one EVP that sounded like the voice of Allison, a co-worker of mine from the Paramount studio publicity department cheerfully saying my name. Another voice sounded like that of my professional psychic friend Fiona saying "HI." The significance of hearing my friends' voices recorded on a tape in Oklahoma seemed a clear indication courtesy of Michael that there were aspects of their individual personalities that existed beyond the constraints of time and space as we are accustomed in our familiar day-to-day reality. Other spirit messages sounded like they were in other languages while there were a few that sounded like something recorded in reverse — in a manner different from a technical malfunction where the tape bends and part of the reverse side is heard, as that unusual occurrence was something I was surprised to have also experienced on one occasion while transcribing.
On one of the most amazing portions of tape there were what sounded distinctly like battlefield sounds of explosions and gunfire. It was similar to listening to a movie soundtrack. These war noises and an American Indian wail could be heard repeatedly in the same sequence during the numerous times I replayed the tape. On some tapes there were a tremendous quantity of unattributed sounds and the majority of them I identified as "clicking, clock or ticking" or "knocking/hammering upon wood." Some of them I couldn't seem to find a satisfactory way of expressing until, during a visit to my brother's office I encountered a familiar face who'd also worked in the Paramount publicity department, Jennifer. When I was discussing the difficulty presented by the unattributed sounds on the interview tapes I was transcribing, she humorously commented that there was probably even tap-dancing going on. I realized that was exactly what some of the sounds sounded like so I added this description to the glossary of unattributed sounds being compiled for my manuscript. It is moments such as this that cause me to realize the nature of spontaneous human thoughts and what is entailed in the development of what we humans consider our individual 'personality.'
The glossary uses a specific symbol for each particular sound designation as it was simplest in this manner to document where the sounds were audible on the tapes. One of the many surprising occurrences in Oklahoma was when all the members of the family spontaneously said "yeah" at exactly the same moment.
As I became more accustomed to spirit messages/EVP, in addition to such words as "NO," "YEAH" or "RIGHT" augmenting sentences, it became more apparent that there were instances of the phenomena where a word would be inserted at the beginning of a sentence or between two sentences as another variation of signal or guidance commentary, such as "SO," "BUT" or "LIKE." Hearing the word "NO" on a recording in the middle of a sentence and thus negating what was being said compelled me to carefully listen to people's speech. In addition to instances of the EVP word "NO," I noticed incidents where people were speaking and then subconsciously negated what they were saying by themselves uttering "no" in the middle of a statement. I'm convinced that this behavior is evidence of another form of subconscious communication from the omnipresent Source Consciousness/spiritual Oneness.
I had some strange experiences with messages left via telephone calls at my Pacific Bell message center. Around Halloween a message had been recorded that sounded like Fiona saying my name. I thought that maybe there was a technical malfunction and a portion of the message had been lost but when I called Fiona, she said that she hadn't called me. The next day Twyla called me and mentioned, "Oh, Michael said he was going to call you." The main reason for Twyla phoning me was to tell me that she'd been notified that the television special featuring the family "Ghosts, Mediums, Psychics: Put to the Test" had been scheduled for November 30, 1995. Then on November 6, I heard a recorded message left for me that in the transcript I could only compare to either a high-pitched shriek or some kind of outer space transmission. It lasted only for a few moments.
I saw my attorney Jonathan Handel on a couple occasions. One afternoon, Jonathan was helping me shop for a new computer and we both witnessed what seemed to me an obvious demonstration by Michael. Jonathan and I were walking past a stack of boxed software and one of the boxes on the flat top of the display flew off and tumbled to the floor. We both clearly saw what happened but when I reminded Jonathan about it, he was adamant that it had nothing to do with Michael. When I asked him what explanation he could offer, he said, "Gravity." Also, when we were in the parking lot my parking validation seemed to have disappeared from my wallet although I had attempted to be careful with it. I concluded that this perhaps was another demonstration for Jonathan's benefit as the parking cost was only two dollars.
I became accustomed to listening to some religious radio shows on my way home from the gym. It was evident that contemporary Christianity spanned an immense variety of doctrine and interpretations. I found especially interesting a call-in show where there were occasional testimonials about contemporary signs and wonders (related article) that I'd never heard reported in the media before, including accounts of speaking in tongues and other unexplained phenomena occurring among Vineyard Movement congregations. I eventually subscribed to a free monthly publication offered on one of the radio shows: Personal Update, the news journal of Koinonia House. One article by Lambert Dolphin in particular caught my attention — "Physics and the Bible: The Other Side of the Vacuum" (volume 7, number 4, April 1997).
We are left on our own to infer the real existence of kitchens, closets, banquet halls and libraries in the heavenly lands! For example, the library in God's house must surely contain books in multidimensional living color — books that contain in minute detail the history of the world as it really happened, all recorded by special angels (see Ezekiel 9:2 for instance). If, then, we are being prepared now to live in wonderful new bodies we also can look forward to dwelling in a splendid new house and city.
For several years following my trip to Oklahoma, I routinely recorded commentary, interviews and telephone calls, and occasional excerpts of radio shows (all with noticeable instances of EVP) to continue my audio journal. I constantly reminded myself that the people with whom I interacted had only an extremely limited knowledge of the entirety of my research and experiences.
While my investigation of "spirit messages" recorded in Oklahoma on interview cassettes occurred without any knowledge of historical research into what is now known as EVP, when I learned about this field of investigation I found corroboration for many of the circumstances that I myself had observed. It was after expediently publishing a case study of what I describe as the beginning of 'my unexpected path of spiritual discovery' in 1997 that I began extensively researching other cases of 'paranormal' experiences resulting with expanded metaphysical awareness for individuals. I'd been casually reading books in this oeuvre since my teenage years. One memoir that offered an essential piece of information was James Van Praagh's 1997 autobiography Talking To Heaven: A Medium's Message of Life After Death. Van Praagh was working in the contracts department at Paramount Pictures at the time he decided to become a full-time medium. In his first book's second chapter entitled "The Gift," Van Praagh describes what differentiates hearing spirit voices.
Usually, I don't hear in complete sentences as I can in normal conversation with human beings. When a spirit says, "Hello, how are you today," I may hear "lo, are yo day." [as with EVP]
Information that would be pertinent to interpreting spirit messages/EVP was found in The Center of the Cyclone: An Autobiography of Inner Space (1972) by John C. Lilly (1915 - 2001). Lilly wrote:
I pursued a peculiar effect we had noticed when working with the communication systems of the dolphin. In order to study the dolphin humanoid vocalizations we put what the dolphin said on a repeating tape loop where we could study it. We then had a group of people guess what the dolphin had been saying. We obtained a list of, say, ten different words that they thought the dolphin was saying. To complete our study we then had to take the vocalization of the human, which had just preceded the dolphin vocalization, and put that on a tape loop. We quickly found that listening to a repeating word in clear high-fidelity English generated more alternates than did the dolphin emission. If one listens to a tape loop of a repeated word for fifteen minutes, one may hear as many as thirty different words other than the one which is on the tape loop.
Lilly conducted similar repeating word tests using human-spoken words and surmised that "the human biocomputer on repetition turns over and selects other sounds which one then hears as if coming from the stimulus word outside." Considering the results of these tests, Lilly referred to "unconscious operations" of the human biocomputer and appraised, "From the repeating word effect, I learned something about going with the flow, relaxing and allowing instructions from some place else to run my biocomputer."
One form of EVP that became a subject for discussion in the 1990s was 'reverse speech.' Australian David John Oates discovered how prominent the reverse speech phenomena are in audio recordings and the nature of his work seemed sufficiently scientific that his findings were reported in some periodicals, radio shows and television programs. After listening to radio interviews with Oates and hearing samples of reverse speech played, it seemed obvious that the Superconsciousness that facilitated the spirit messages heard on audio tape was also offering commentary when tapes are played backward. These reverse messages are as diverse in scope as those heard in the customary manner.
The discovery by Oates of reverse speech was described in an article by Mike Safe in the August 5, 2000 edition of The Weekend Australian.
In 1983, Oates says he accidentally dropped a tape player in a toilet bowl and on retrieving it found the machine would only play tapes backwards. He ended up using this to play suspect heavy metal tapes and thereby claims to have found a form of subliminal communication, Reverse Speech, the name of which he has copyrighted and built into a modest business, mainly in the U.S. and Australia.
In comparison, when a water bottle lid wasn't on tight and leaked over my microcassette recorder in my carryall bag, I found that the machine was ruined and would no longer play at all.
2023 Update
These journal entries are intended to chronicle daily interactions with my personal 'guide/s in Oneness'/'Guardian Angel' as representing 'The God Force' ('Michael' or 'M') manifesting continuously around me in diverse and unlimited ways. When I began writing journal entries in early 2021, I had no idea that this was going to provide a personal documentary account of the shocking emergence of the 'God Alter Ego' usually called 'The Devil.' Each living organism is an individual aspect of 'M.'
Some Additional Blog Articles about EVP
Excerpt:
In the following excerpts from the 1968 Arthur Shuttlewood interview (Track 28), apparent EVP messages are indicated by capital letters within parentheses similar to the transcripts in my book. Readers unfamiliar with EVP will be surprised to learn that EVP communication is commonly noticeable on radio broadcasts and any unedited program recordings, including television broadcasts. As you can see in these transcript excerpts, some EVP instances are more distinct than others when one attempts to differentiate them. Whenever I listen to radio interviews, I routinely notice EVP messages and 'unconscious utterances' although most listeners seem oblivious to this phenomena, assuming instances of EVP to be attributable to radio show hosts or guests. There are also many unattributed sounds that are noticeable on this 1968 Shuttlewood recording.

In his later autobiography One Foot in the Stars (1999), Matthew wrote that his visit to Douglas Johnson for a psychic reading had coincided with Matthew's father buying a copy of [Konstantin] Raudive's book. In 1973 at the age of eighteen, Matthew returned to Oakham School "determined to try one of the experiments outlined in Raudive's book." What happened next was recalled by Matthew in The Link.

Accustomed to hearing EVP on daily radio broadcasts, I usually am able to gain a better understanding of an interview guest because of this awareness. While watching the "Star Wars The Force Awakens Comic Con Panel" video (Flicks and the City Version)," I noted where can be seen and heard two examples of EVP (that you may personally observe in the YouTube video) along with many instances of the phenomenon when a speaker spontaneously says "no" or "you know" — with an elucidating result for the attentive listener. As EVP utterances can at times sound the same or similar to the speaker's voice, it can be difficult to differentiate EVP from the occasions when someone makes unconscious utterances such as "no" and "you know" — both of these occurrences are aspects of the omnipresent external and physically internal 'Force'/'Superconsciousness' (or 'shared subconscious mind') involved with all of humanity.

Reaching the vacant rooms at the top of a staircase, Zak [Bagans] reacts when there is a percussive sound: "That was a huge bang right in front of me." Trying to "make contact" with Drewry, the team utilizes an SP11 Spirit Box 'spirit communication device.' Zak's voiceover: "It contains two separate spirit boxes that simultaneously sweep audio frequencies in the electromagnetic field in opposite directions preventing audio interference contamination." After Aaron asks, "Do you know what land we're on?," it sounds like a voice says "YES" at 16:19 yet Aaron asks, "Did it just say Indian?" Attempting to quickly interpret what is heard may lead to error. The initial "YES" is the clearest of the utterances heard. Zak's voiceover is then heard: "Watch very carefully. Just before we receive our very first voice that we believe is saying 'Indian' a bright ball of light appears and then shoots right inside the Spirit Box. Three voices immediately follow." As the team discusses what seem to be EVP (or Instrumental Transcommunication / ITC) and the appearance of the apparent small orb, the men suddenly start shouting and stagger frantically. Jay explains, "The whole house shook before anybody jumped." Having dropped his camera, Zak finds that it is broken.

Jürgenson asked, "Was there an invisible intelligence that with such a remarkable way was trying to get my attention? Very puzzling!" As he continued to experiment with the tape recorder, further phenomenal experiences followed. After some hours of concentrated listening, and getting used to the disturbing noises, a pleasant male voice started to emerge from the chaos of sounds. The voice spoke English with deep conviction and an unusual intonation.

Columba[Krebs] next described what happened that night when Truman [Bethurum] played for her a tape recording of one of his interviews for a radio station.
When it was finished, he turned the tape back to run it off. Suddenly, we were both amazed to hear the jolly voices of a man and woman conversing in a strange sibilant language. Their soft tones were rather high-pitched and rapid, with a slight sing-songy rhythm. His eyes went wild with joy as he listened with rapt recognition.
"What's the matter? Who are these voices?" I asked, sensing something very extraordinary about this from his attitude.
"That's Aura Rhanes, I would know her voice anywhere, talking with one of her crew." He acted as though he not only recognized their language but understood it as well, because he laughed as often and as jubilantly as they did. It was rather tantalizing to me to not be able to understand what they were saying. I was a bit piqued that they didn't say one word in English.
I'm certain that what 'normal' life has been for me for many years might seem 'over the top' to other people yet how they perceive their lives must be similar to the way I did about mine prior to my 'paranormal initiation' suddenly gaining momentum at the age of 39 in 1995. When one lacks spiritual and metaphysical insights (as I did until that time), one may not realize that expanding one's knowledge in these realms is possible and pass their time in ways expressing a social consciousness of materialism, entertainment and escapism — or, considering artists and performers, focusing upon engaging in their particular talent.
As I've previously mentioned — The 'Divine Dispensations' reflecting Superconscious aspects of human interaction upon being overlooked, misunderstood, denied and perhaps rejected, results with the Interacting Omnipresent 'God Force' manifesting in new ways. Just as today mass media encompasses billboards, cell phones, movies, newspapers, radio, television, magazines, video games, the Internet and social media, and now 'AI'; in past decades types of human mediumship included automatic writing and art, clairvoyance, clairaudience, crystal ball gazing, direct voice, physical (materialization of people and objects), photography, 'precipitated paintings,' solar plexus voice manifestations, spiritual healing, trance, trumpet voices, and writing through slates.
Considering the insights made possible through my studying the field of transcendental communication cases in recent decades, I've learned that each person "has formulated his opinion based on his unique experiences and the understanding or misunderstanding that he has gained in his soul . . ." (article) and concerning transcendental communication occasions "an intelligence is selected best adapted to that occasion" (article).
Below are shown three 'paranormal' experiencers whose extensively documented lives may at first seem 'over the top' when someone first learns about one of them.
(from left) Chico Xavier (1910-2002), a prolific automatic writing medium-author; Leslie Flint (1911-1994), a Direct Voice (disembodied speech) medium; and JZ Knight, through whom 'Ramtha' speaks during intervals when she's no longer conscious
