What is a Photoshop layer mask?

The Layer Mask is a very important part of Photoshop. This tools has the ability to hide and reveal parts of the layer without deleting them. it can helps the designers to become more efficient and more creative. You can also add black/ white, or gray color to a layer mask. Black on a layer mask hides the layer that contains the mask, so you can see the underneath that layer.

How to create layer mask

The Layer and vector mask are non-destructive which means that you can go back and reedit the masks later without losing the pixels they hide. In Layers panel, both layer and vector masks appear as an additional thumbnail to the right of the layer thumbnail. For the layer mask, this thumbnail represents the grayscale channel that created, when you add the layer mask.

for create a layer or vector mask in over the Background layer,

first convert it to a regular layer.

 (Layer > New > Layer from Background)

 

How to use Layer mask

Follow the steps you will know how to work in Photoshop Layer mask..,

 

• First create a new layer over a background and create a shape in the imageusing shape tool.
• After selected the shape, click the add layer mask button it is in layer panel right in the middle, The icon is a square with an circle in the middle.
• When you click the layer mask, the white box that appeared it’s make sure that it’s active. Now, using the brush you can easily mask out any part of your shape.
• In there you can also back thing using white color because nothing is gone permanently there. You use black for erase and white for recover and You can also use shades of gray, the darker the gray and the more it will erase.
• If you move your layer aroundyour mask will follow and stay attached. using the Chain Link icon located between layer and layer mask icon.
• if for any reason you want to permanently apply your layer mask. you can Right Click and Apply Layer Mask on your layer mask.

first make sure that there is a white board around the thumbnail in layer panel, if there is no white board thumbnail click the layer thumbnail.

Select the brush tool from tool bar, then in option bar open the brush piker and choose the size and hardness of the brush.

Set the default color of white and black in tool bar press ‘D’ , Then for switch the color press ‘X’. now black become the foregroundcolor .

Now print over the images, which is add the black color in the layer mask and finish.

Follow the steps, that make it easy..,

First switch the foreground and background color in the tool bar press “X’. Now white become the foreground color.

Print over the hidden areas of the images. So, the white color added to the layer mask

First we need to create a layer mask in ‘Fade’ layer. After that copy the contents of the plaster layer by clicking its thumbnail (press ctrl > A to select all then copy ctrl > C ).

To pest the image into the Layer mask, we need to enter the ‘ parallel universe’ of the layer mask and we do that by holding alt > option then click the layer mask thumbnail. Now pest the images click ( ctrl > V).

You can find the layer mask in the layer mask thumbnail again and selecting Image > Adjustments > Brightness & Contrast.
