TIPS FOR USING OUR SEPTEMBER CONTENT CALENDAR IDEAS
Choose the “days” or celebrations that your audience will relate to. Put yourself into the shoes of your ideal customer. What are they interested in, outside of your business and what you normally talk about? Do they love reading? Do they have pets? Do they love conserving nature? Just because they followed you for your business-related content, doesn’t mean they don’t want to talk about animals or art or alcohol. Get creative by using our weird and unusual holidays. Remember, posting about something like Chocolate Milkshake Day can make you more human and relatable? Everyone likes Chocolate Milkshake, right?

There are different theories why Father’s Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in September in Australia, and in June in many parts of the world. It doesn’t really matter. Father’s Day has been celebrated in Australia since 1936, and it’s good to celebrate your dad with a special day. Share Dad jokes or ask your fans for one word that describes their father.
LETTER WRITING DAY
When was the last time you received a personal letter? How did it make you feel? In a digital world, it’s easy to forget the joy that letters can bring. Use Letter Writing Day to put pen to paper to compose a thoughtful letter to someone you care about. Encourage your followers to do the same too.

PET ROCK DAY
Pet Rock Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of September. The lovely thing about painted stone pets is that they don’t need any food or water and if you forget about them, all you need to do is dust them off and they are good as new. Pet Rocks started in the 70’s and recently they have had a revival with many Facebook Groups encouraging people to find pet rocks hidden in the local area, take a picture and then hide them somewhere new. Paint your own one or look out for pet rocks in the wild!

NATIONAL BLUEBERRY POPSICLE DAY
These frozen treats are refreshing in hot weather. You can buy some to celebrate this holiday or, better still, make some. There are lots of recipes for making blueberry popsicles which range from healthy to decadent. Ask your fans to share their favorite recipe.

LABOR DAY
Labor Day has been celebrated as a national holiday in the USA and Canada on the first Monday of September since 1894. It pays tribute to all the hard-working men and women who play a vital role in the economy. Labor Day marks the end of summer so, make the most of this occasion with a picnic or BBQ, attend a labor parade or use the day to enjoy a day with friends and family. Good images to share on social media would be of picnics, fireworks and BBQS.

3RD SEPTEMBER
NATIONAL WELSH RAREBIT DAY
Welsh Rarebit used to be called Welsh Rabbit and no, there’s not a hint of bunny in this cheesy toast dish. The first reference to this delicacy was in 1725 was “Welsh Rabbit” fifty years later it had changed to “Welsh Rarebit”. At that time, according to the Telegraph in keeping with the British tradition of taking a dig at the Welsh, the word “Welsh” often meant something substandard or fake. There’s a wide range of recipes ranging from simply melting cheese on toast to premixing cheese with flour, ale and mustard before pouring on bread. One thing all the recipes have in common is oodles of melted cheese.

SKYSCRAPER DAY
The first skyscraper was the Home Insurance Building in Chicago which was completed in 1885. It was the first building to constructed with a structural steel frame. Since then the race has been on to construct the tallest building in the world. At the moment, the tallest building in the world is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, U.A.E which is 2717 feet tall. That is until the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia is completed in 2020. It will be 3,304 feet tall. Find an image of city skyline and share some fun facts about skyscrapers.

4TH SEPTEMBER
NATIONAL WILDLIFE DAY
This holiday was founded in 2005 by animal behaviorist and philanthropist Colleen Paige to bring awareness to the plight of wildlife globally. It also is to acknowledge the works of zoos and animal sanctuaries to preserve endanger animals and educate the public. You can celebrate the date by supporting your local animal sanctuary or a conservation charity. What’s your favorite wild animal?
WORLD SEXUAL HEALTH DAY
Sexual health is often a taboo subject. The World Association of Sex Health (WAS) founded the day in 2010 to ensure that sexual health issues are discussed everywhere. It is celebrated in 35 countries. Help break the taboo.

NATIONAL MACADAMIA NUT DAY
The delicious, rich, buttery nut is celebrated around the world on the 4th of September. Macadamia nuts are native to Australia, but did you know that now most will be are grown in Hawaii? NATIONAL BE LATE FOR SOMETHING DAY
National Be Late for Something Day make freak out particularly punctual people. It’s good to be reminded that sometimes you need to take the time to smell the roses. Sticking rigidly to a schedule creates stress. Try being purposely late today and see what happens. Did your world fall apart or did something unexpected happen?
Be Late for Something Day was established by the Procrastinators’ Club of America shortly after they were founded in 1956.

WORLD BEARD DAY
It’s considered rude for men to shave on the first Saturday of September! This is the day to celebrate facial hair follicles. Beards are very trendy now ranging from goatees to bandholz. Apparently, beards are a sign of masculinity. Do you agree or disagree? Start a debate about beard vs no beards, or show some love by posting an image of your favorite beard.
GRANDMA MOSES DAY
It’s never too late to start something new! Grandma Moses only started painting in earnest at 78, when arthritis made embroidery too painful. She is an inspiration for anyone who thinks they are too old for a new adventure. She waited years to manifest her childhood dream. She was born on the 7th September 1860 and died at the age of 101. She was a prolific painter who managed to produce 1500 charming rural landscapes in the last three decades of her life.
INTERNATIONAL VULTURE AWARENESS DAY
Vultures are not attractive birds…. they certainly lost out in the good looks department. They have unpleasant habits. They pick at dead carcasses. Their role in ecosystem is often misunderstood and many species are threatened by illegal poisoning. Conserving vulture species is important for ecology. International Vulture Awareness Day is celebrated on the first Saturday of September to raise awareness of these scavenging birds of prey.
Fun Facts about vultures: Vultures are social and there a few collective nouns associated with them depending on what they are doing. A group of vultures resting in a tree is called a committee, a group flying is called a kettle, and group feeding on a carcass is called a wake.
8TH SEPTEMBER
INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY
750 million adults still can’t read and write. Two thirds of them are women. United Nation’s International Literacy Day is to raise awareness of the issue and to encourage coming together to create solutions. You can do your bit by sharing information about literacy on social media.
GRANDPARENT’S DAY
The US Congress proclaimed the first Sunday after Labor Day as Grandparent’s Day in 1978. Celebrate the elder members of your family tree by doing something special for them. It’s a good day to bring generations together for a family celebration. If you no longer have grandparents, spend time with an elderly person. Have fun on social media by encouraging people to show their grandparents or their grandchildren (depending on the demographics of your audience).

INTERNATIONAL SUDOKU DAY
The World Puzzle Federation thought that 9/9 would be a symbolic day to celebrate Sudoku because of the 9 by 9 grid that is used for this brain teaser. The name “Sudoku” originates from two Japanese words: “su”, which means “number,” and doku, which means “single.” Even though Sudoku uses numbers, it doesn’t require any mathematics. It is all about logic.
NATIONAL HUG YOUR BOSS DAY
Show your boss that you appreciate them by letting them know. Hugging your boss may not be appropriate or physically possible (if you work remotely), but you can always show them gratitude. If you work in an environment where you can hug your boss, surprise them with a big embrace first thing in the morning.

WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY
Every 40 secs someone dies by committing suicide. For every suicide, 25 people attempt suicide. World Suicide Prevention Day is organised by the International Association for Suicide Prevention to help develop multi-level interventions through educating and building support networks globally. It’s estimated that for every suicide, 135 people are affected by it.

9/11 REMEMBERANCE DAY
Where were you when you heard that two planes had crashed into the twin towers? In 2001, the world was shocked by four coordinated hijacking of American passenger-carrying airplanes by the Islamic terrorist group, al-Qaeda. Two were flown directly into each of the Twin Towers in New York, another into the Pentagon. The fourth crashed. The attacks killed about 3000 people and injured a further 6000, causing $10 billion pounds of damage. It was the deadliest terrorist attack in human history.

The Constitutional Convention was signed on September 17 in 1787 in Philadelphia. Constitution Day and Citizens Day recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution and people who have become U.S. citizens.

A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey conducted in 2014 found that 74% of American Adults prefer cheese on their burgers. According to the Guinness World Records, the largest hamburger weighed 913.54 kg (2,014 lb). And if you are making the largest hamburger in the world, would you make it a cheeseburger? Of course! The gigantic meat feast was topped with a massive 18.14 kg (40 lb) of cheese. Hungry?

NATIONAL RUM PUNCH DAY
Rum punch originated around 1655. The oldest rum punch recipe is Bajan (Barbadian) rum punch. There’s a national rhyme about the recipe: “One of Sour, Two of Sweet, Three of Strong, Four of Weak.” The sour is lime juice, sweet is sugar, strong is rum and water is the weak. It is served with a dash of Angostura bitters and nutmeg. Another popular rum punch drink is Planters Punch. Its ingredients are dark rum, pineapple juice, lemon juice, grenadine, sugar syrup and a few dashes of Angostura bitters. It would be rude not to celebrate this holiday without trying a rum punch. INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE
The United Nations theme for 2019 is: “Climate Action for Peace”. Natural disasters displace three times as many people as conflicts. Scarcity of resources which create tension and mass movement of people affect every country on every continent. Acting on combatting climate change is a way to protect peace around the world.

HOBBIT DAY
J.R.R Tolkien’s beloved characters for The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, shared a birthday on the 22nd of September. Hobbits are unlikely heroes being between two and four feet tall, but they accomplish amazing feats. Hobbit Day has been celebrated since 1973, the year that Tolkien died.

WORLD RHINO DAY
There are five species of rhinoceroses. Two in Africa and three in Southern Asia. Three of the species are on the critically endangered list due to illegal hunting. Their horns are used in Traditional Chinese Medicines and as status symbols. There are less than 30,000 rhinoceroses in the wild. World Rhino Day is about raising awareness of this big herbivore.

23RD SEPTEMBER
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF SIGN LANGUAGE
There are 70 million deaf people worldwide and 300 different sign languages. Only two percent of deaf people have access to sign language education. The United Nations day is to raise awareness of the importance of sign language for deaf people’s human rights.
EQUINOX DAY
The equinox takes place twice a year when the sun is exactly over the equator. The word “equinox” comes from Latin, meaning equal day and night.

A period, it marks the end of a sentence.
