No Olmpics To View Online...WTF!

I think it is a complete outrage that this year's Olympic Ceremony cannot be viewed online, at least at the time of this writing. I was so outraged in fact that I actually took the time to create a blog account and blog about my frustrations. That's right I am a virgin to blogging. This is officially my first blog.

No other outlet I could think of could be so fitting to my utter disbelief that my search for an elusive glimpse at the spectacle of the Beijing Opening Ceremony came up blank. Youtube let me down this time. Every other time when I need my 2:00 am fix of guys doing acrobatic stunts into jeans (it's a real video if you haven't checked it out) or a listen to my favorite song (that's right I'm that guy that listens to songs on Youtube) the beautiful video safari that is Youtube is there to provide me my quick fix for random useless videos.

The ONE time I need to see a video that matters, one that has fueled my inspiration since I was a wee child, it's not there! I kept getting those annoying "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by a third party". Don't get me wrong I'm all for protecting copyright ownership and making sure illegal distribution does not occur, but the Opening Ceremony for the Olympics come on that should be public domain.

Every time I see the lighting of the big torch in the ceremonial stadium, where ever that may be, I get a mist in my eye and that child like hope comes back (come on don't tell me you haven't felt emotional watching the Olympic Ceremonies at least once as well). But damn Youtube got to stand up for themselves at least once.

Yeah, the BIG BAD Studios and Networks are going to threaten action in the form of lawsuits but if Youtube just sticks them with this anytime they put pressure on, well the bull dogs would think twice. Youtube should just say, would you deny this child a chance to see the wonder...the amazement... the hope that is the Olympic ceremonies and the lighting of the torch that comes with it? While doing so Youtube should have a child with puppy dog eyes and the saddest most adorable expression in front of the Studio and Network execs. If that doesn't tug on their emotional heart strings then I'm at a loss for what else could work.

The search wasn't entirely fruitless. I did find a video I almost thought was footage showing the main highlights from the Olympic Ceremony, titled "2008 Beijing Olympic Ceremony". 6 minutes in, however, I realized it was two men performing Cirque Du Soleil style routines, essentially what could be summed up as karma sutra gymnastics.

So there you have it-- the reason why I'm so outraged at the lack of online coverage. Why should I have to wake up extra early to catch the opening events just because China is like 20 hours ahead of us. It should be available online like every other major world news or event. Screw Youtube. For lack of anything better to say and because I've stayed up later that I wanted to writing this rant. It's bedtime now. I'm done. Until the next random thought comes to mind.
