Zombie Apocalypse

Today I’m going to review a new game called Zombie Apocalypse. Usually, I’m not a big fan of these simple shooter games, but this game has just the right amount of things to keep it interesting. There is not much of a story with Zombie Apocalypse. You are tasked to protect a shelter from the attacking zombies, simple as that. The premise is something like in that TV show Walking Dead, but that’s about it when it comes to the storyline. You will have access first to a simple pistol, but completing the levels you receive coins which can be used to purchase more powerful weapons. On the game page, it states that there are 4 types of weapons and upgrades, 4 types of shelter upgrades and 7 types of enemies.

After playing a few levels it becomes clear that you really need more powerful weapons because the enemies are getting faster and tougher to beat. The gameplay is simple enough, basically, it is a 3D shooter, but the big difference is that the main character you control is stationary. The zombies just keep on coming from every direction, so you need to keep an eye on the sidelines in addition to what you can see right in front of you. It all sounds very easy and it is, but at the same time, it is surprisingly fun/scary when the zombies are about to overwhelm your shelter.

All other weapons except the pistol have a limited amount of ammo, so you have to keep purchasing more bullets between the levels. Also, it makes sense to conserve the ammo against the powerful zombies usually towards the end of each level. The first upgrade from the pistol is the shotgun which is very useful against slow moving zombies that come in packs. Just wait until they are close enough because the shotgun is not very accurate. Then you can upgrade later to a submachine gun and AK-47 which is the most powerful weapon in the game. There are also options to reinforce the shelter, install searchlights and add another person in a guard tower to shoot down the zombies.

Verdict for Zombie Apocalypse: 7/10

Simple zombie shooter game with a solid gameplay. This could be a good start for another Zombie Apocalypse game with more options to customize, more levels and so on. The same scenery get’s a little boring after a few levels, despite the new monsters.
