Onimusha Warlords – Take a Walk Through Feudal Japan’s History

Onimusha Warlords is an action adventure video game available on PlayStation 2. Released in 2001, it is the first in the Onimusha series. Onimusha Warlords PC gamers can also enjoy this game, too. It follows the story of Samanosuke Akechi and Kaede in their fight against Nobunaga Oda along with their fight to save Princess Yuki. It is entirely set in the Sengoku period, a period that spanned 1467 to 1603. The exact time of this story takes place around the 16th century, which was when the real Nobunaga Oda existed. During this time, there were the typical samurai warriors and the setup that built this world. While the world is, of course, fictional and based on fictional events, it does use some of Feudal Japan’s history to craft the world in which you fight.

What is Onimusha Warlords?

The gameplay, graphics, story, and characters of Onimusha Warlords, as well as its future. This is an overview of everything that you can expect from this action adventure game available on PS2. We will go in depth with the important details, tell you all about what you can expect, and give you a look into the video game through the text here along with video and photos from my own play through.

The core of the game is action. You spend most of your time fighting against warriors and beasts on your way to take out the main boss of the game. Along with the battles, you are going to complete some puzzles. The puzzles play a minor role in the game, though, as this is mostly about battling, upgrading, and becoming strong enough to take on the last boss of the game. Throughout this, you have many aspects of a story driven game. This includes a wide variety of characters, a plot, and actions that will move you forward in the story. There is a clear start and finish to this game.

What is the Story of Onimusha Warlords?

The story starts with a battle. It is the Battle of Okehazama. This is a real battle that took place in Japan, but changed somewhat for the sake of the story. Our main character, Akechi, is watching the battle, though he is attacked by the Yoshimoto clan. The Yoshimoto clan eventually falls at the hands of Oda, who receives an arrow to the throat and is thought to be dead. A year passes after this incident and we once again see Akechi. He learns that monsters are likely taking away Princess Yuki’s servants. He and Kaede decide to go to her castle to help her, but find that they are too late as Oda and his forces march away from the scene.

This sets the scene for the rest of the game. You are on a mission to stop Oda, uncover the secrets behind Oda remaining alive, and save Princess Yuki. The story will grant you powers and take you across Japan as you battle all types of monsters and warriors.

The Characters of Onimusha Warlords

Characters in Onimusha Warlords are:

  • Samanosuke Akechi: The main character and protagonist.
  • Kaede: Friend of Akechi and playable character that assists you.
  • Yuki: Princess and cousin of Akechi. Kidnapped by enemies.
  • Nobunaga Oda: Main antagonist that is based on a real life person.
  • Hideyoshi Toyotomi: Antagonist in the series based on actual samurai.

These are a few of the main characters throughout the series. All appear in Onimusha Warlords as well as other titles in the Onimusha series.

The Gameplay in Onimusha Warlords

The game uses a mixture of action and puzzles as you play. Along with fighting demons and other villains, you will deal with puzzles that require environment interaction.

During battles with Akechi, you will use one of a variety of weapons. His weapons include a katana, long ranged weapons, and elemental weapons. You start with the katana, but you can change at a future point. As you use these weapons to defeat enemies, you will collect souls of varying colors, all of which are important to the game. Two soul types are for healing, while the other is for upgrading your weapons.

If you’re having trouble in beating certain enemies or bosses in this game. There’s plenty of Onimusha Warlords Walkthrough video tutorials and gaming magazines that will help guide you through this game without any problems. If you’re really desperate to beat this game. You can use Onimusha Warlords cheats or different gaming cheat devices to breeze through this game as well.

Kaede is a second playable character who possesses unique weapons and skills. She does not have the ability to collect souls like Akechi.

The Next Part of Onimusha Warlords’ Story: Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny

The huge popularity of Onimusha Warlords led to several more releases in the series. The second release, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, follows the path of a new character, Jubei Yagyu. He learns of Oda’s actions and attacks and goes on a mission to stop him. It follows a similar story and path that you have with Onimusha Warlords, but updated and with new characters.

The Man Behind Onimusha Warlords: Keiji Inafune

Onimusha Warlords comes from producer Keiji Inafune. Keiji is responsible for many popular titles from Capcom, including the Mega Man series and the Resident Evil series, and a host of other successful titles. During his time at Capcom, he was a producer for many of the most popular titles. He also worked as a designer and project lead for many, including Street Fighter.

Graphics of Onimusha Warlords

The graphics for Onimusha Warlords were normal for PlayStation 2 games at the time of release, which was early 2001. The graphics received a great amount of praise at the time, though they are viewed as outdated by today’s standards. Compared to games released at the same time, however, they were considered exceptional.

Real battles, real historical figures, and real places collide with fictional characters, monsters, magic, and a fictional storyline. Defeat the undead, take out monsters, learn new powers, and save the princess. Help Japan to find peace in extraordinary ways with your weapons, skill, powers, ninja friends, and the desire to save the world. Take a journey through Onimusha Warlords and enjoy every minute!
