Top 10 Xbox 360 Games

Once we wrote a post for the Top 10 PS3 games (you can see that here), we decided it was only fair to write a post for the other console that owned the industry from 2005, the Xbox 360. Here at gamesGRABR, it was so difficult to come up with just ten games we loved from the console, considering there’s a huge back catalogue of stuff to choose from. We’ve managed to compile a list of what we think is the best of the best, so sit back and enjoy this blast from the not-so-far past.

1)   GTA V

Now, we know we’ve put GTA V on pretty much every list thus far, but everyone has to agree that it really is one of the best games to ever be released. The massive open-world game allows you to literally do anything you want, if you want to observe the scenery, you can. If you want to kill everyone and everything in sight, you can. If you want to drive from one end of the map to the other, guess what? You can totally do that. You get the idea. It’s so much fun to play with your mates or on your own with a six pack of beers (we’re not endorsing you doing this, sorry guys). Oh, and of course you can actually play the campaign, which is a barrel of laughs too.

2)   Gears of War

The Gears of War franchise released four separate games on the Xbox 360, but the first release is by far the best for us. Not only does it have a stellar campaign, and one that isn’t ridiculously hard the first time you play it. The online element of the game is awesome too. The online tournaments take on a few ideas that are similar to other war style games, with modes like Warzone, Assassination and Execution, it’s not hard to guess what the aim of them are.

3)   Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

This is the game that has passed everyone’s lips. We’ll be very surprised if there’s a gamer out there that hasn’t played this game at least once. Whether it was the campaign or the online mode, there’s something for everyone on this release. Modern Warfare was the absolute don on the Xbox 360 and it’s still popular now, whether you play it online on PC or dust off the old console for it. We love it, we’ve always loved it and we will continue to love it like it’s our child.

4)   Dead Rising

There was nothing better than coming home after a stressful day and putting Dead Rising on. This largely open-world game allowed players to kill zombies with pretty much anything they could find. Sound difficult? It would be, apart from the prime location of this game was set in a shopping mall with access to pretty much everything. The aim of the game was primarily to stay alive, also to help any survivors stay safe while you waited for the helicopter to arrive. We had a few favourite weapons of choice, but probably a heated frying pan was the most hilarious.

5)   Saints Row: The Third

If you actually got bored of Grand Theft Auto and fancied a game that drew a lot of similarities, then Saints Row was definitely your best option. Much like the previous games, player-characters would lead the three saints gang and take on rivalries in a number of turf wars. It was pretty much gang wars all the way through the game, but the light-hearted gameplay and it’s weird scenarios was what made the game awesome. Also the fact you could use a sex-toy as a weapon – that was hilarious…and effective.

6)   Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

There were a grand total of seven Assassin’s Creed titles released on the Xbox 360, so why did we choose Black Flag as the best release? Well firstly, you’re a pirate and that’s awesome. We can’t think of many games where you get to play as an assassin pirate and navigate ships around the ocean. Not only was the gameplay on point in this release and controls were easy to navigate, which made the game thoroughly enjoyable, but the best part was your crew singing to you when you found a pirate shanty. Literally, your crew would sing to you when you collected a piece of paper, it was awesome.

7)   Borderlands 2

If we had to describe Borderlands in one word it would be epic. The almost comic book like construct of this game was done so well and mixed cartoon graphics with really quirky graphics and it made something that was so fun to play. Then Borderlands 2 was released and everything was even better. Better guns, better gameplay, better character development. It was so fun. The best part of Borderlands though, wasn’t just all of the stuff we’ve listed above, it was the fact that the game itself wasn’t impossible to complete, which kept us coming back to it over and over again.

8)   Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect had such a huge impact on the gaming industry and was quite possibly one of the best sci-fi games ever released, but it did have its faults. It was pretty much impossible to navigate around and it was quite clunky to play and at times hard to understand. This is why we were so glad that Mass Effect 2 was released, it ironed out all of the imperfections of the original game and made it ridiculously good. The whole thing was much more open-ended and user friendly in all ways, not to mention the story line was decent too.

9)   Viva Piñata

You might be wondering why we included this game, which on the surface is a kid’s game for young kids. Well, delve a little deeper in to this release and you’ll find a game that’s nothing short of weirdly sadistic. So, obviously you spend most of your time building your cute little garden and collecting all of these cute little animals. But soon enough you’ll have to expand your garden and find more creatures that you’ll have to capture and that means you’ll have to breed your multi-coloured creatures, even if that means breeding parents with children, brothers with sisters or even grandparents with grandchildren…all so these new creatures could come and destroy them and eat the precious sweets they left behind so they could stay…don’t say we didn’t warn you – it’s quite hilarious though, right?

10) Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

I think every person on the planet knows the title Skyrim, the instalment in the Elder Scrolls series that was based around dragons and killing them and learning their songs. It was awesome. Not to mention the gameplay was super smooth and levelling up was a dream, the map was absolutely stunning and there were so many different side-quests that it would take years to actually finish the game – we haven’t finished it yet either, don’t worry. There were so many twists and turns in the game and you could literally be whatever you wanted, the game was so open-world that trying to compare your experience to your friends’ experience was very difficult, we love it and we want a Skyrim 2 (which will be announced at this years E3 by the way).

So that’s our list of Top 10 Xbox 360 games, would you choose something different? Let us know in the comments.
