From developer Cyan Worlds, the creators of Myst and Riven, comes Firmament, a great-looking adventure-puzzle game.

Myst and Riven were both groundbreaking games at the time, and Cyan has always offered excellent native Mac support. Those are two good reasons to keep track of all of their projects. Plus, Firmament looks like a promising adventure game, both in the gameplay and graphics departments.

Firmament Mac release date

The official release date on Steam is set for May 18, 2023. This date has also been confirmed by Cyan’s latest post:

They take that opportunity to also set the stage for the game and hopefully hype it ahead of its release:

Featuring deep storytelling and world-building, discover the story of this seemingly abandoned world as you explore and unlock the mysteries of 3 unique Realms… and beyond!

It is unknown if it will be released in the Mac Apple store at a later date.

About Firmament: Why is it a big deal?

There are two reasons why Firmament is such a big deal.

First, Firmament is part of the recent generation of high-quality games that will release with native macOS support. An increasing amount of new releases are becoming native to Mac, which is a trend we like seeing. With Firmament being part of this generation, it is in our interest to support these games to encourage more developers to release macOS native games.

Furthermore, Firmament is also part of the growing VR development in video games. While Firmament can be played with or without a VR headset, the game is developed with VR accessibility in mind. And seeing that Apple will most likely release its own VR experience soon, Firmament could play an important role in making VR part of the core Mac gaming experience.
