Candleman is a game that went from decent to amazing to okay to awful to incredible if my notes are anything to go by, which is a whole lot of ups and downs. The wonderful parts consist of far more levels than the bad ones, though, and the secondary time trial mode makes even those few awful levels bearable by shifting the focus away from lighting various semi-hidden candles along the way to focusing solely on getting from point A to point B as quickly and efficiently as possible. Plus, the “Complete Journey” version of the game comes with the free Lost Light expansion that Xbox One players had to wait 10 months for, so it feels like a much more complete game (and even has a much more fitting ending than it used to).
