3 Tips For Choosing Paint Colors Around Your House

If you have plans to change up some of the Paint Colors around your home, you’ll want to think long and hard before you start slapping that paint down. Because painting can be an arduous task, many people leave this to professional painters who can do a great job in a quick time frame. But even with pros, you have to be the one to pick what paint colors you want them to use.

To help you in making these decisions, here are three tips for choosing paint colors around your house.

Base Color Choices On Your Furniture

If the paint is one of the only things that you’re wanting to change about the design and decor of your home, one of the best places to start when determining what colors to use is with your furniture. Unless you’re planning to reupholster or get new furniture after you paint, basing the paint colors off of the furniture that you already have will help to ensure that your rooms have a cohesive vibe.

While you can choose paint colors that match with the wood or metal that have been used as the structure and frame of your furniture, you can also go with the prints and color that are used on the upholstery. Try to choose an accent color or an undertone that is within the color scheme of your furniture. This will help everything flow together nicely.

Consider The Mood You Want

Before you choose the final color that you want to use in the rooms of your home, you’ll want to think about the mood that you want to encourage when people are in that space. Different colors can affect mood differently, and you don’t want to choose to paint a room a color that clashes with the mood that you’re wanting people to have.

For example, most people don’t want to have a red color in their bedroom because it can be energizing, when what you want to be doing in your bedroom is sleeping. So prior to choosing the color, make sure you know the theory behind what that color can mean subconsciously.

Use Neutrals In Creative Ways

For many people, neutral colors are going to be the way to go. Especially if you think that you might be selling your home in the near future, neutrals can be a great way to allow both yourself and future buyers to put their own stamp on the place in different ways. However, just because you’re going with neutrals doesn’t mean they have to be boring.

You can be creative with neutrals by doing things like painting in stripes, doing an accent wall, painting the ceiling a different color, or using different tones of the same neutral color to add variety to the space.

If you want to have some new paint colors in your home, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you make some good choices.
