Game of Thrones: A Telltale Game Series

Game of Thrones: A Telltale Game Series
Reviewed on PC.

Games of Thrones...what can you really say about it that just is a massive disappointment. There's no need to talk about what Season 8 of the show did that completely ruined everything. In a way, the game from Telltale is just as much a disappointment as the TV series. Though it isn't the fault of Game of Thrones, but rather the closure of Telltale.

Telltale has produced a ton of amazing games and I actually thoroughly enjoy them all. Though a similar point-and-click type of adventure, each of the Telltale games brings a different addition of gameplay. Most importantly it's the story and characters that keep you entertained and what stands out here. During the peak of Game of Thrones, this game was out. Telltale had a ton of successful releases like Walking Dead, Wolf Among Us, etc. So to dive into the Game of Thrones world as it follows one of the more eventful stories in the show was intriguing. On top of that, there was a sequel to come.

Knowing that the sequel was to come and the TV series going on, I didn't mind the gameplay or the story as you knew it would continue. Everyone knew, it was just too good to not keep going. So though this first Game of Thrones game was a bit weak, you had the anticipation that the second game would carry over your important decisions and you wonder what they would do. Then the big news of Telltale closing down came and it makes this game very tough to look back on.

Looking at the restart of Telltale, more of their IPs are long gone. Though they are working on a sequel to Wolf Among Us, nobody in their right mind would even consider renewing the IP of Game of Thrones considering how the show left everyone with a bad taste. This is what makes the entire situation a disappointment. The game itself is not difficult but it's those key decisions, shock moments, and storyline choices that you wonder what will come of it as you continue on. You invest your time, only to be massively disappointed and left with a sour feeling.

That's Game of Thrones by Telltale. Something that hooks you during the peak of the show, but you don't want to think of it at all because of the TV series and Telltale issues. It'll be a fascinating piece of history looking back at the big failures of the past and this stands near the top of that list.
