Dev Log #08 – Neil D – Ally Move Animation Contd

This Week

This week went as I expected; I worked on the Animation for the whole week. The animation itself wasn’t too bad. However, after I had implemented the animation, I found out that the battle system didn’t like the way we were using our animation and went malfunctioning. More specifically, a player move could result in an infinite cycle and cause the bout to crash.

The difficulty of that problem was that we used a framework to handle the battle system, so we are kept away from the details of the battle system. I had to try different framework settings, but none of them worked. Luckily, in the end, I did find a way to change the existing script to make it work.

Next Week

I’ll be working on different hassles next week, including fixing more animations and bugs and improving UX. One thing we’ve noticed that causes inconvenience is that the “skip” button cannot be triggered by the keyboard. We will make the change to make the game go smoother.

Media

I do not follow the news, so I found out pretty late that Facebook has stepped into the VR market and changed the company to Meta. They are now building a virtual community called Horizon Worlds, in which the users can interact with the virtual world the way they do with the real world. It feels like we are very close to the real VR world when those big companies declare to make their business about it. I can’t wait for the future VR world.
