Resogun is one of the first games I played when I got my PS4 in 2013. It’s also one of the best arcade shooters if not games this generation. FACT!

If anyone else tells you any different send them to me and I’ll sort them out. It’s got that just one more addictive vibe to it. Once you pop you just can’t stop.

So this is my Resogun review. It’s a fun pick up and play arcade side-scrolling shooter and a very polished one at that. You would expect nothing less from the arcade genre veterans Housemarque. They’re the masters behind other shooter classics Dead Nation, Alienation, Nex Machina and Super Star Dust and many others.

Resogun has a simple premise, shoot everything on screen and save the last human.

As you play there are powerups and boosters to collect that upgrade your ship’s firepower.

Resogun Modes

Demolition

There are a number of game modes including demolition where you have to bounce the bombs around the screen to destroy everything while not trying to die. 

Sounds simple but is a real test of nerves and skill once you trigger multi-bomb. Oh yeah you can’t shoot anything in this mode either. You know, just to make life that little bit easier.

Commando

Another mode in Resogun is a kind of asteroids style mode where enemies fall from the sky you need to run across the screen and shoot them while protecting your base. This mode was a tougher mode I felt. One that I don’t shine on.

Protector

Protector Mode features an all new planet flip mechanic and environmental hazards such as volcanic meteors to avoid while fighting off the never ending enemy invasion.

Survival

Survival mode does what it says on the tin. Stay alive as long as you can whilst building up the highest score possible.

I’m not going to lie it gets pretty hectic out there. There are times when it almost feels impossible then you detonate a shockwave at the last second that erupts around the screen, destroying everything giving you just those few seconds to breathe.

Challenge

Then there’s the challenge mode where you have to complete various tasks, including weekly challenges.

Oh, by the way, on top of all that you can play all of the above in online or co-op multiplayer. Truly epic.

If you fall in love with the game you can even buy and download the soundtrack from the PlayStation Store and download the Resogun players guide from the Housemarque website.
