Explain why there will be no remakes of Yakuza 3 , 4 and 5

Toshihiro Nagoshi estimates that Yakuza 6 already sold almost 900,000 copies

SEGA was surprised to announce remastered versions of Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4 and Yakuza 5 for PlayStation 4. However, the community still wonders why the company did not work on remakes, as it did with the Kiwami series for the first 2 installments of the franchise.

Toshihiro Nagoshi, the creator of Kazuma Kiryu and company, recently spoke on the subject during a special broadcast. According to him, SEGA did think of remakes for Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4 and Yakuza 5.

Despite this, the company decided in the end to do only remasterizations. This is because the gap between PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 is smaller compared to the current system of Sony and PlayStation 2.

Yakuza and Yakuza 2 were titles of PlayStation 2, so for his jump to PlayStation 4 the ideal was to make remakes, hence the existence of Kiwami. Nagoshi indicated that they could do the same for the following deliveries; however, they would have felt committed to adding new content to make the remakes worthwhile.

Recently, the creator said that the new versions of Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4 and Yakuza 5 will not have extra content, as they also seek to bring the original experience to the new fans of the series.

Also, the developer said that the success of the franchise the reason for launching the remasters, especially in view of the good results of Yakuza 6 not only in Asia but throughout the world.

Currently, there is no exact sales figure for Yakuza 6. Nagoshi estimates that the title has already sold between 800,000 and 900,000 copies in Japan, the rest of Asia, as well as in America and Europe.

The remastering of Yakuza 3 will arrive in Japan on August 9, while that of Yakuza 4 will be available in the fall of this year. The new version of Yakuza 5 is scheduled for the spring of 2019.

Unfortunately, SEGA has not given information about its launch in the West.
