15 Times The Final Fantasy XV Bros Showed Us The True Meaning Of Friendship

Final Fantasy XV is known for its food, massive world, and multimedia experience, but more than anything, it’s probably known for the friendship between Noctis and his bros. After all, approximately the first two-thirds of the game is a giant, open-world road trip. That last third though, is some pretty heavy-going stuff. Let’s not think about that. Instead, let’s think about the awesome friendship between Noctis, Gladiolus, Ignis, and Prompto! Here are 15 times the Final Fantasy XV bros showed us what true friendship is all about.

Warning: things get spoilery in the later half of the quiz.

1. When the entire party went out of its way to help Gladiolus get his cup noodle fix

Admit it. How many of you would actually leave the house to accompany your best buddy out to satisfy their midnight cravings? These bros went out and killed a giant lobster (possibly scorpion??) just to help their bro get the perfect topping for his cup noodles.

That’s like your friend texting you at 2am asking for some McDonald’s chicken nuggets, and you driving 2 hours just to get it for them.

That’s dedication.

 2. When Noctis knelt down in some mucky water to pick up Ignis’ glasses for him

So technically this could happen in any situation, not just mucky water. But given that most of the fighting action seems to happen in mud, dirt, etc, the point still stands. Especially since we know that these bros don’t exactly get to shower very often.

Question: How do Ignis’ glasses remain so clean after all the stuff they go through?!

3. On that note, when Noctis helped Ignis hunt down the chocobo who stole Ignis’ glasses

As delightful as it was to get to see Ignis without his glasses for once, the entire incident is pretty terrifying, if you think about it. For one, chocobos are friendly and all in the game, but they’re still basically giant chickens. Have you ever encountered a chicken in real life? They’re like, tiny feathered balls of claws and doom. At chocobo size, they’re giant feathered balls of claws and doom.

These foul fowls may be cute and all when you’re riding them, but all I’m saying is, there’s a reason why Noctis and Ignis had to sneak their way in. And then flee once they got the specs.

4. When Ignis tried and tried to recreate a dish just because Noctis liked it

The dish in question

For those of you who only played the game, you’ll probably only know this as one of Noctis’ favourite dishes. That, and the fact that it smells like a confection that Noctis received from Lady Lunafreya.

If you’ve watched the Final Fantasy XV: Brotherhood anime that accompanies the game however, you’ll know why Noctis likes it so much. And that Ignis tried over and over again to recreate the dessert for Noctis. In fact, most of Episode 4 (which you can watch here!) features Ignis’ delicious looking attempts.

5. When the bros all went into the water to help catch Noctis’ fish

Okay, so Ignis and Prompto probably didn’t enter the water all that willingly, but still. Look at the cheerful grins on their faces! All while they’re carrying a giant fish, no less.

Speaking of fishing…

6. All those times when Ignis, Gladiolus, and Prompto spectated Noctis’ fishing

I wonder how sick they are of watching Noctis fish?

Of course, this depends on how much time you as a player spend fishing. But I’m sure most of us have spent hours standing on various piers or seaside docks as Noctis, trying for just one more catch.

The most bro thing about all of this though is the fact that they actually watch! They’re not just tuning out, or turning away to play King’s Knight. They actually pay attention and comment on Noctis’ catches.

Sure, some of those comments can be less than flattering…

7. True friendship is making fun of your buddy’s wiener size

An example of a less than flattering comment. Thanks, Gladio!

Seriously though, nothing says true friendship like being able to make fun of your buddies. You know what they say, a friend will compliment you, but a true friend will make fun of your biggest insecurities. Or something.

8. When Prompto tries to woo Cindy, and Noctis can help. Or “help,” depending on your choices

Noctis: Either the best wingman, or worst possible wingman ever.

9. When nobody ever stops Prompto from humming

Sure, Prompto can be a little annoying, especially to some players. Yet, in game, other than a few sideways remarks about Prompto being “useful for a change,” the other guys never actually tell him to shut up.

Even Gladiolus’ “Sounds like you’re having fun” sounds pretty indulgent. And this comes from the guy who’s kind of super gruff and impatient!

[Spoiler Alert]

The next few things in this list contain spoilers from Chapter 10 onwards.

Here’s a cute picture of all the bros to remind you of how awesome their friendship is

This is your last warning!

10. When Gladio gave Noctis the wake-up call he really needed (twice)

Nothing says “I care about you” like a lecture

The first one happens pretty early on in the game, and it gives us a glimpse at their relationship that’s otherwise mostly hinted at in Final Fantasy XV: Brotherhood. If you’ve watched Brotherhood, you’ll know that Gladiolus is a pretty responsible guy, and believes that Noctis needs to take his royal duties more seriously. Twice in the game, he calls Noctis out on his avoidant behaviour. Sure, he’s kind of mean about it, but the fate of the world rests on their shoulders, after all.

That second time was especially harsh, but we can all probably agree that Noctis needed it. Sometimes, you just need your friends to call you out on your bullcrap. And that’s exactly what Gladiolus did for Noctis.

11. When Prompto was worried about being from the empire, but his friends reassured him

“You guys are like the only friends I’ve ever known,” is a pretty sad sentence on its own. What takes things from kinda sad to really freaking sweet is how the other guys respond. They don’t give speeches or anything, they just treat him like they always have. And from Prompto’s face, that is the best thing they could have done.

12. Everything about Ignis in Chapter 10

From his speech about wanting to still be fighting alongside his friends, to the small background animation details, everything about Ignis from Chapter 10 onwards is some onion-cutting material. And it definitely doesn’t help that the developers added lots of background animations.

If you’re (re)playing Chapter 10, keep a look out for Prompto and Ignis while you’re running around and getting the generators started. There are lots of little moments where you see Ignis losing his balance or tripping on something, and Prompto helping him back up after.

13. When Gladiolus was really thoughtful to Ignis

Gladiolus is a true bro (source)

The casualness with which they have this exchange shows how Gladiolus has already familiarised himself with helping Ignis out. Plus, this only happens a few days after Ignis goes blind, and it’s already become something they’re used to! True bros indeed.

14. When Ignis, Prompto, and Gladiolus waited for Noctis for 10 years with complete faith in him

Man, how many of you even trust your friends to turn up on time for movies? These bros not only waited on their buddy for ten years, they did it while facing darkness and demons and all sorts of things. And they did it while having complete faith that their buddy would return. That right there is true friendship.

15. …When Noctis disappeared for ten years and came back looking like a hobo, but nobody called him out on it

And, last but not least, an indicator of true friendship: Tactfully not pointing out your bro kind of looks like a murder-hobo. Even though he does.

I mean, Noctis probably didn’t get to shower at all during those ten years.

…Probably.
