Top 4 Video Game Universes To Live In

The world we live in is pretty great. But at times, don’t you wish that you could live in the same world as your favourite video game characters? In a realistic setting though, you probably won’t be the epic hero that saves the day. But hey, life can still be pretty awesome, right? To measure the awesome-ness of these video game universes, we’ve graded them according to three criteria:

  • Fun Factor: Is the world fun to be in?
  • Uniqueness: How special is the video game’s universe?
  • Survivability: Considering how you are just a normal person (essentially an NPC), how would you fare?

So imagine if you were in the world of your favourite video games, living life as a normal person. Which worlds would probably be the best to live in? Let’s find out.

Pokemon

Living in a world with Pokemon is probably a shared dream amongst many people
  • Fun: 10/10
  • Uniqueness: 8/10
  • Survivability: 9/10

By far the best world to live in. The Pokemon Universe exists with every person having the opportunity to own and train Pokemon. This means that there is no “real” protagonist. Anyone and everyone has the chance to become a Pokemon Master, even if you are just the son of a Bug Catcher.

This is a world where you have airplanes and hot-air balloons coexisting with flying Pokemon. You can drive a car or ride on your Gogoat. Heck, you can ride on freakin’ dragons!

It has something for everyone. Ancient ruins? Check. Underwater caves? Check. Modern metropolis? Check. Stunning beaches? Check.

Technology in this world is also pretty advanced as well. Information travels quickly – remember how fast Oak arrived when you defeated his grandson? In addition, your electronic devices don’t seem to need charging.

All in all, life is pretty good. You never have to worry about feeling cold (fire pokemon), drowning (water pokemon), falling out of a plane (flying pokemon), or getting lost in a cave (ground pokemon).

Don’t feel like becoming Pokemon Master? That’s cool as well. Just hang out along one of your favourite routes and chill. Just remember to keep clear of the tall grass.

The Sims

This is probably the best chance for you to own a huge-ass telescope in your home – together with a rooftop swimming pool. And an outdoor BBQ area.
  • Fun: 8/10
  • Uniqueness: 8/10
  • Survivability: 8/10

Basically, living life in Sims is sorta like living life in the real world. Except better.

The Sims probably has one of the most fun gaming universes to be in. Everyone has an equal footing to achieve whatever they want in life. You can get a job, and you can get promoted multiple times within just 1 week of starting work. With enough training, you can teleport or walk through walls. You get to meet aliens, interact with Death, and be as immortal as you want to be. What else could you ask for, right?

Wrong. You know what the best part is living in The Sims world? You can buy and sell furniture whenever you fancy. As long as you have the money, your life is going to be a bed of roses. Want a game room? Get one immediately. House too small? Expand your walls. You don’t even have to wait to renovate. There’s no drilling, hammering and all that dust that comes with renovation. Everything is instantaneous.

The Lego Games

Who is the better wizard: Harry Potter or Gandalf? The Lego games probably give you the highest chance of finding out.
  • Fun: 7/10
  • Uniqueness: 9/10
  • Survivability: 10/10

While there are many games within the franchise, we decided to group the Lego franchise as one collective universe. This is because the games sometimes overlap. And after all, it is Lego. You don’t really have to take the universe with strict measures. They don’t expect you to.

The reason why the Lego universe is so awesome is because you can’t die. In the games, you simply lose some gold. But you essentially get another set of hearts for you to continue on your day.

Like The Sims, building new objects is fun and easy. You can easily create a Death Ray from scratch, based off the parts of a broken television. Neat, huh? In addition, because you’re made of Lego, you don’t need to worry about bed head, or wet hair! All you need to do is just change your set of hair attached to your head and you’re good to go. Your imagination really is the limit.

The biggest selling point is that the Lego Games combine universes from different franchises, such as Star Wars or Marvel. This means that you get to interact with your favourite characters and see the cool stuff they can do. Yeah you probably don’t have any super powers. But hey, you can still become a master builder right?

You know what the real gem of living in a Lego Universe is? When you step on a single brick at night, it won’t hurt. It’ll just get stuck to your feet.

Stardew Valley

Look at how relaxing Stardew Valley is. We could all do with a countryside getaway
  • Fun: 6/10
  • Uniqueness: 7/10
  • Survivability: 7/10

The world of Stardew Valley is amazing. The community is really nice. Everyone is friendly to you, and you have everything that you need to survive – all within walking distance. There is a nice bar that people can go to at night to relax. If you aren’t feeling sociable, you can go night fishing. Sounds like your typical town outside of the city. Except they have freakin magical juminos.

The juminos are magical creatures that help in your farming. Imagine: you open a farm and start planting crops. These juminos can give you special tools to make your farming life a breeze. This means fresh produce almost everyday, and sometimes without the need to break into a sweat.

You could spend the extra time on your hands to pick up a new hobby. Reading, sewing, collecting rare gems. The possibilities are endless with so much time on your hands.

Admittedly, this world is not very far from what we can get in real life. But the sheer simplicity of a quiet farm life away from the city is rather romantic. Add the fact that you have magical creatures that make your life like heaven, and your decision is essentially set.

As long as you are not hungry for the city life, living in Stardew Valley really can offer something for everyone. From fishing to rearing animals, from mining to visiting museums – Stardew Valley is perfect for anyone who wants an escape from the hustle of the city.

Honorable Mentions

These games are awesome as well, but juuust dont make the cut

Skyrim

Now, don’t get me wrong, Tamriel is a fantastic place to live in. Essentially a medieval Scandinavia with monsters and things trying to kill you every few hundred steps, life can get hard though. If you aren’t the Dragonborn, you would probably be opening a fruit shop or jewellery shop. Maybe you join the Companions. Maybe you are enlisted into the Thieves Guild. Or you spend your days as a Vampire hunting outside cities for fresh meat. Either way, life can and will get tough. There isn’t much to do at night except hang around at the Bannered Mare. An ordinary person without any training would rely on city guards for protection. And even then, they can get bribed. It can get pretty uncertain and volatile if you ask me.

Grand Theft Auto V

Like Skyrim, this world is awesome if you are the protagonist. But if you are just an ordinary person living in Los Santos, don’t expect life to be fine and dandy. Own a flashy car? Chances are, you’re going to get robbed. Obeying traffic laws? Boom – one guy comes around with a giant tank. Walking on the pavement? Cars can’t tell the difference. In a land of vice, you could potentially live out a rather rewarding life. Provided you  engage in the vice-related activitiestoo. But without cheat codes in real life, chances are you’ll probably end up dead. Or worse – in jail.

Minecraft

Minecraft is truly such an interesting world to live in. You get to create things out of almost nothing. The world around you is as easy to construct as it is to deconstruct. You can create vast manors in a matter of hours. Life would be pretty sweet. Except that if you stay out at night, you run the risk of GETTING KILLED BY FREAKING ZOMBIES. Now that really sucks. This means no late-night movies, suppers or parties. You’ll just be holed up in your home. I mean, you could invite your friends over – but that would mean knocking down walls. There goes your house #aesthetic.
