Being a video game developer is probably an incredibly stressful job. Sure, you get to work on really awesome video games. But you also have to deal with a pretty demanding community while meeting really tight deadlines. Also, you won’t be able to play video games to destress! The horror! Luckily for us gamers, the video game devs out there are pretty awesome people. Not only do they handle all of that with aplomb, they also make time to provide us with entertainment. On top of the hours of entertainment their games already provide us with, that is. In anticipation of April Fools’ Day 2017, here are some of the best April Fools Jokes ever played on us by video game devs.

The Witcher 3: Wild hunt – Roach

The CD Projekt Red team already showed off some of their humour with a previous April Fools’ Day video, but their 2016 offering takes the cake. The sheer amount of effort it must have taken to produce all that “mocap” is mind-boggling. Not to mention the biggest joke in the entire video: CD Projekt Red doing pre-order bonuses. Hah!

Guild Wars 2 – Super Adventure Box (and more)

Guild Wars 2’s developers and community moderators have a history of playing April Fools’ pranks on the playerbase. The pranks range from hilarious bobbleheads to turning all the characters into airplanes. Given that the first Guild Wars had an infamous April Fools’ prank where they changed all the players into stick figures, this isn’t surprising. The Super Adventure Box gets a shoutout for the hilariously 90s style video that came out with it though.

ARK – Survival Devolved

Last year, the developers behind ARK: Survival Evolved, decided to go in a different direction. A very, very different direction. In Soviet Russia Survival Devolved, a dinosaur rides you!

Final Fantasy – Introducing ChocoGo

The future is here! Experience the all-new, 100% green, chocobo-driven transportation initiative. Kind of like Lyft, except a lot fluffier and cuter.

Dark Souls III – The Movie Trailer

Sure, the idea of a Dark Souls movie is pretty damn tantalising, considering the lore and story of the original games. What makes this video particularly hilarious is the way it’s been made to look like a VHS era movie. Not gonna lie though, I would totally watch that movie. Wouldn’t you?

Hearthstone – The MMO

Ever wished that you could play Hearthstone like an MMORPG? Clearly you’re not alone. With Blizzard’s latest game, you can now play your favourite ~original~ Hearthstone characters in an MMORPG!*

World of Warcraft – T.I.N.D.R

Another Blizzard entry, but this blog post needed its own category. I don’t know about you, but I think this would actually make a pretty great addition to the game. Honestly! You know you want to help all your companions find love. Sort of.

League of Legends – In 3D???

As if the chaos of colours and text on any given game of League of Legends wasn’t already enough, you now have the option of having all of that in 3D!!! Truly a dream come true!* And possibly a migraine.

Luckily, that was just an April Fools’ joke by Riot games. Still though, I’m sure some players would want that. Maybe someday, eh?
