The Mangus Five: Top Five Horror Movies Prominently Featuring Beer

To introduce a new Friday feature, The Mangus Five, I'm beginning with as quintessential a top five list as possible for Fear with Beer: The Top Five Horror Movies Prominently Featuring Beer.

While horror movies might have a rogue scene featuring a beer or a tavern, I looked for movies where beer played a critical role or featured beer in a pivotal scene. I wasn't able to find that many, and had to rely on the horror comedy genre, but every movie on the list below is a good one.

In no particular order, here are my Top Five Horror Movies Prominently Featuring Beer.

The World's End

Structured entirely around a pub crawl, there's plenty of beer in this Simon Pegg and Nick Frost movie, both before the movie takes a serious turn for the weird and after. The 12 pubs of the crawl? The First Post, The Old Familiar, The Famous Cock, The Cross Hands, The Good Companions, The Trusted Servant, The Two Headed Dog, The Mermaid, The Beehive, The King's Head, The Hole in the Wall, and The World's End.

Shaun of the Dead

This list wouldn't be proper without mentioning The Winchester, the pub featured in another Pegg/Frost horror comedy. This movie has beer before zombies, beer during zombies, and beer after zombies.

Grabbers

Beer not only prominently features in this movie,  it also was front and center on movie posters and in fact helps save the day against the monsters. Check out my earlier post on this very enjoyable, very Irish movie.

From Dusk Till Dawn

I've added this Robert Rodriguez / Quentin Tarantino collaboration not only because the vampire fighting takes place in The Titty Twister, a fictional south of the border strip club and bar, but also because buried in the movie is Cerveza Chango, a fictional beer brand often hidden in Rodriguez films.

An American Werewolf in London

While beer doesn't directly cause any lycanthropic transformations, David and Jack's encounter with the locals at The Slaughtered Lamb pub indirectly sets in motion their future werewolf events. The lesson? Stick around and enjoy your pint. Knowing the name of this pub is essential horror movie trivia.
