It was very close but Independence Day: Resurgence came out on top!
Independence Day: Resurgence the unexpected sequel to the original 1996 film, Independence Day. It’s becoming a frequent trend in Hollywood where popular movies from the late 90s or early 2000s are receiving unnecessary sequels a decade later. When the movie Independence Day: Resurgence was announced, many people were excited to see a sequel with more advanced CGI. But since its release the movie has been receiving different reviews from both fans and critics.
Is Independence Day: Resurgence another unnecessary sequel released 20 years too late? Or does the sequel actually deliver and move the story to another level. Well here are the different opinions we have received from our wonderful twitter followers.
The “This movie was really fun, but had some minor flaws” Reviews
@popcornoncouch I loved Independence Day: Resurgence. Massive action, amazing effects, Jeff Goldblum is a joy. Some problems, nothing major.

The “This movie was boring & lacked the heart from the first film” Reviews
@popcornoncouch all of the original without the fun, intrigue or originality. Pointless. #IndependenceDayResurgence #MixedReviewsMonday

@popcornoncouch The last 10-15 mins is FUN, the rest of it is boring, dry, and it forgot basically what the first was all about. 3/10.
— Rhys (@RuhBuhJuh) 9 July 2016
@popcornoncouch Didn’t have the feel of the first one, too much set in space. Felt like it was just setting up the next one. 2/5.

— GROG (@GrogsMovieBlogs) 8 July 2016
@popcornoncouch Just pure garbage. Lacks the charm of the first film and awfully acted by everyone involved. Overall, 1/5.

The “This entertaining movie was average & saved by amazing CGI” Reviews
@popcornoncouch special effects aside, a pretty average movie. I didn’t hate it, but I was hoping to get a lot more from it. 3/5.
— Christopher Heaney (@darthelvis) 9 July 2016
@popcornoncouch unnecessary but entertaining sequel. Cheesy, stupid but solid blockbuster fun 3/5
— HCMovieReviews (@HCMovieReviews) 9 July 2016
@popcornoncouch Bit slow to start, had way too many characters & lacked the charm& charisma of the 1st one. Still was fun & an easy-watch 3*
— Elena Morgan (@ElenaM52) 8 July 2016
@popcornoncouch boring 1 dimensional characters, with a shoddy script, and unnecessary arcs, saved only by nice CG 5/10.

We received various reviews on Independence Day: Resurgence majority were negative. Most of our followers admitted that the CGI was impressive however that was the only positive thing about the film. Many thought the movie was dumb and lacked the charm and charisma which was in the first movie. Whereas others could ignore the flaws of the film and found it entertaining.
