Jeep Mission Renegade Experience

So, on Friday I had the privilege of being invited down to Bicester in Oxfordshire as part of a ‘Mission Renegade’ promotional campaign with Jeeps new Limited Edition Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice Renegade cars that were featured in the latest movie. Only 500 of these special edition models are available in the UK and were released as part of Jeep’s 75th anniversary and partnership with Warner Brothers Pictures.

Mission Renegade was an assault course live driving experience that involved putting the Renegade through it’s paces over a range of obstacles, ramps and terrain to demonstrate the cars capabilities. We were given our mission packs and asked to choose if we should side with Batman or Superman. I naturally chose Batman as if you’ve seen the movie you might have a good inclination as to why I made that decision.

Now although I have driven cars before, I don’t have a UK Driving License (UK drivers scare the crap out of me) so my friend George took over and I’m rather glad he did as some of the ramps looked terrifying from the back seat, I can’t imagine what they must of looked like from a drivers perspective. We were accompanied on our journey by a former Nascar driver who along with the Jeep staff members helped to guide the car over the various obstacles on offer.

Most of the ramps we encountered put the Jeep onto two wheels as though we were performing some crazy Jeep circus routine, over grids and various degrees of ramp and terrain. Most of the time my only worry was being able to record footage with either my face pressed up against the glass or sliding halfway across the back seat of the car, but in the end I think I managed.

We pulled up in-front of a warehouse that had been kitted out to look like a makeshift batcave. We accept a mission brief that comes in via the cars phone and we enter the cave.

The jeep splashes through water, rolls up ramps, bumps over rubble and then proceeds to bounce over tyres and I was very impressed by how the Jeep handled these tasks with ease.

As we approach the end of the course we were greeted with fog and fire effects surrounding us that really added to the missions atmosphere. We made a horseshoe turn and we were face to face with a shipping crate with a ramp attached. We approach the ramp guided by our professional driver in the passenger seat and we ascend to the top, at this point I’m trying to maintain my cool as the only thing that can be seen out of the front window was the warehouses roof. A quick roll down to the bottom and the course is complete, we approach black curtains that slowly slide open to reveal the mother-ship. The batmobile from the new Batman V Superman movie.

I attended the public event on the Friday and I was so disappointed that the press event which we were invited to on the Thursday had an extra perk included that involved sitting in the batmobile along with a lap of the race-track outside; this wasn’t the case on the public day. we weren’t even allowed to take pictures of the interior as it had been stripped to it’s original state; it was a real shame, but just standing next to the batmobile was a very small consolation.

All in all the Mission Renegade experience was definitely one to remember, I felt all strange on the journey back as all four wheels of our car were firmly on the ground when I’d just spent the last 30 minutes of my day balancing sideways on two wheels. Once we left the event we took a little trip to Silverstone and found an all day event happening. We were given an all access pass and had an extended automobile day out. Well worth the trip to Oxfordshire!

Each of the 500 limited edition Jeeps all featuring 18-inch alloy wheels, a unique Batman v Superman badge and a choice of either the 1.6-litre E-torQ 110hp petrol (£19,495 OTR), or 1.6-litre MultiJet II 120hp diesel engine (£21,195 OTR), both with manual transmission.
