Deepika Padukone’s behaviour has been rather strange and shady for the past few months. Well you might just dub us as people who are only pointing out shady things about anyone and everyone from the world of glamour but don’t blame us. These guys are literally asking for it!
So today the person on the hot seat for us is Deepika Padukone. If one was to notice Deepika Padukone’s graph, she is a girl who came from Bangalore, supposedly at the tender age of 18. She decided to forego her undergrad studies and instead pursue the big dream of modelling and acting. Her slender legs and dusky complexion immediately got her noticed but Deepika Padukone always exhibited traits of someone over ambitious who always knew where to go and who to be seen with. Her first boyfriend, a very famous model himself, was Nihal Pandya. The minute she got her first break in films with Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om with Shahrukh Khan, DP dumped Mr. Pandya to seek greener pastures. Reportedly, and as Deepika has herself told in many interviews, she was actually looking forward to debut with Saawariya opposite debutant and soon to be heart throb of the nation Ranbir Kapoor. Even Sonam Kapoor herself revealed in an interview, that she did over 15 auditions for Saawariya and her main competition for the role was Deepika Padukone. Deepika lost out the chance to debut with Ranbir but that didn’t deter her from pursuing a film with him. Right after Om Shanti Om, Deepika signed on Bachna Ae Haseeno with Ranbir Kapoor. A strange choice considering the fact that her first film had her in a double role, which meant LOTS of screen time whereas Bachna Ae Haseeno had two other actresses : Minissha Lamba and Bipasha Basu. Though Ranbir ends up with Deepika in the film, her screen time was 1/3rd compared to his. Why she agreed to do this film, despite being pitted as the most formidable new comer in the film industry? One can only understand it if you look at it from the angle of her trying to get close to Ranbir. And close she did get! The two started dating during the shooting of the film and Deepika ensured that the relationship was very public. We saw videos of them kissing each other in the airport and the two painted the town red going to parties, award shows and movies together.
Deepika’s keenness to hold on to Ranbir came out when she went ahead and inked his initials RK on the nape of her neck. Ranbir obviously was too young and perhaps not so serious about anything but his career. He reportedly cheated on Deepika and Deepika went bat shit crazy revealing in every other magazine and interview that “My boyfriend cheated on me”. Most people claim Ranbir cheated on Deepika with Katrina Kaif but since Katrina Kaif herself was dating super star and someone who literally built her career – Salman Khan, nothing was ever confirmed for a very very long time. So while Katrina Kaif extended her break up with Salman to make it happen slowly and steadily and not get the blame of cheating on Salman Khan with Ranbir Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor remained single.
Deepika on the other hand went the whole hog and on several award shows was seen telling Ranbir that she “loves” him. Ranbir obviously had his heart elsewhere. Knowing that Ranbir wasn’t coming back to her, Deepika decided to date liquer baron and millionaire Vijay Mallya’s son Siddharth Mallya. Not only was he younger to her, some reports had suggested that Deepika was feigning the relationship as a publicity stunt for Siddharth since Mr. Mallya wanted the whole nation to know his son, now that he was back from the U.K. We saw Deepika like an arm candy with Siddharth, again attending parties with him. It looked awkward but Deepika didn’t fail to give him a peck or two in public. Meanwhile things between Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif looked up though nothing was confirmed about their relationship.
Deepika however didn’t take the Ranbir-Kat rumours lying down. She was seen taking digs at Ranbir by asking him to endorse condoms. She also asked Katrina through interviews her age and her real identity which till date remains a mystery to us audience who have been putting millions in her pockets by watching her films. And all this while, Katrina maintained a stoic silence not once mentioning Deepika, Ranbir or Salman to anyone.
By now either Deepika had had enough of being a millionaire’s arm candy or perhaps, the contract genuinely ended. The relationship all of a sudden fizzled and Deepika was finally seen doing another film with Ranbir – Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. The break up with Siddharth was also perfectly timed, right before Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani went on floors. Deepika looked rather happy during this phase and she perhaps thought things could go back to normal with Ranbir. However pictures of Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif chilling in their undies in Ibiza, Spain were leaked right after Yeh Jawaani’s release and the cat was finally out of the bag. Ranbir and Katrina’s relationship was finally confirmed and everyone finally understood that the two had been together all along since Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahaani days.
Deepika was seen realising all over again that she is indeed single. She immediately got into a relationship with Ranbir’s namesake Ranveer Singh. The affair happened during Ramleela. Everyone started talking about the two of them. Meanwhile rumours of Katrina and Ranbir buying a new house where they’d move in together started doing the rounds. Newspapers only seemed to have four names strewn all over them : Ranbir-Katrina and Deepika-Ranveer. Deepika however decided to up the ante! Times of India very typically ran a story on her cleavage which went something like “OMG Deepika’S CLEAVAGE”. TOI btw, has an entire section at least on their website which is nothing less than soft porn so expecting noble journalism out of them is kind of an over reach. Now here is a woman who openly wears bikinis in movies and has never really been a conservative kind of girl. Yet she decided to go bat shit crazy for the second time blaming TOI for objectifying her by zooming into her cleavage. Frankly speaking, we’ve seen much more of her than just her cleavage. Nevertheless, Deepika Padukone and TOI trended for weeks on all social platforms in India and Deepika suddenly turned into an ambassador of women empowerment. Meanwhile she continues to talk about sex, virginity and fannies in her film so the contradiction in her OH-SO-DIGNIFIED stance over a picture of her cleavage and the kind of “cool” person she tried to portray herself to be was very stark and rather tacky.
Deepika went THE EPIC HYPOCRITE way when she attended the Filmfare awards, an award show held by the Times Group. The same group that owns TOI and had “supposedly” objectified her as just a being with a cleavage. Despite slamming them over social media as crass and cheap, Deepika decided to attend the award ceremony. If this hypocrisy wasn’t enough, Deepika decided to also attend the AIB Roast with her beau Ranveer Singh where the stand up comics spoke about Ranveer banging her brains out. Now we wish TOI was not a newspaper but a stand up comedian. Maybe then she would’ve laughed off them pointing out her cleavage because evidently, the AIB folks mentioning her getting screwed by a guy who they kept calling a slut and a STD was ok.
So, was the cleavage controversy a publicity stunt? Perhaps. Does Deepika appear as over ambitious. Kinda. Does Deepika comes across as a hypocrite? Of course.
