Bethesda Vice-President Says Fallout Film Won’t Happen

Bethesda have managed to make some amazing games over the years, but one that always stands out for everyone is their Fallout series. The games are set in a post-apocalypse world, filled with mutants and creatures, plus new groups of people who’re just too dangerous to mess with, not to mention all the radioactive areas you just don’t want to wander into without a hazmat suit on.

The gaming giant seem to get the similar set of questions often about a Film version of any of their titles, just as vice-president Pete Hines has said:

“We get asked to all the time, but the short version is; we make games. That’s what we are known for. And this conversation usually falls into the camp of; are we going to let some other person do their own interpretation of what Fallout is, or Elder Scrolls is, or Dishonored is? Or are we going to hold onto it and let the developers be the only ones that are able to say, ‘this is what Fallout is, or Elder Scrolls, or Wolfenstein, or whatever?'”

To be honest, I’d love to see a Fallout series than anything else. It’d look brilliant and the series is so rich for story I’m surprised a network hasn’t forced their way into it already. Even their Skyrim series has huge themes that could be explored, but it’s something that people would see too much GAME OF THRONES in if it were created.

“Even when they say, “oh no, you will have total control,” well, I don’t know anybody who actually has total control over the film adaptation of their video game. If you did, why would you not just make it yourself? Of course the film studio and the scriptwriter and the director are going to have a tonne of say. They will have their own vision. So we get asked all the time, but we see it as a distraction. We’re a video games company; let’s do what we know.”

I’m all for keeping these series as games, rather than see them turned out just for a profit on the big screen. We don’t need to turn every video game franchise into a film franchise, because lets face it, it hasn’t worked out well so far and WARCRAFT is the latest to show for that.
