Zack Snyder has some serious make up to do for the fans of the DC comics. He made a mediocre MAN OF STEEL film, which just felt like a lifeless Superman whizzing round, then he did BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF Justice, which was a two hour discussion of heroes fighting for ten minutes.
I didn’t enjoy MAN OF STEEL but BATMAN V SUPERMAN got something from me, probably because Ben Affleck’s BATMAN just stunned audiences. He’s tackling his third DC and Warner Bros. superhero flick with Justice League.
J.K. Simmons is having a role as well, trading in his J. Jonah. Jameson from SPIDER-MAN and going for a brooding Commissioner Gordon. Although in the JUSTICE League, we don’t know how much camera time Simmons will have. What it does mean though is we’ll get to see him alongside BATMAN for Affleck’s solo outing.
“My part is done. They are filming that for basically most of 2016, so some of the superheroes are still at work in jolly old London, but I’m back home with my family.”
Like I said, Simmons role may not be too big, especially with shooting all wrapped up for him when the rest of the cast are continuing on. He even confirms this by saying most of his scenes where alongside Affleck’s BATMAN:
“Yeah, mostly with Ben. In this first installment of the Justice League, Commissioner Gordon is not a particularly sizable part. We just kind of introduce him and see a little bit of his interactions with Batman — and with most of the Justice League. That was a really fun set. Zack [Snyder] runs sort of a big, happy family and it’s obviously, in many ways, a very different work environment when you’re working on a big, giant movie like that than a relatively small movie like The Meddler. But at the end of the day, the director is the one who sets the tone. And one of the things that Zack and Lorene [Scafaria] have in common is they’re just nice, smart, competent, fun people that you don’t mind spending a 12-hour day with.”
Hopefully this shows in the JUSTICE LEAGUE, because at this point with DC and Warner Bros. are seriously hurting the fans with their movies. SUICIDE SQUAD, the most recent release, wasn’t the all-mighty downfall the critics panned it as, but it wasn’t anywhere near how good it should have been. Fingers crossed next years WONDER WOMAN and JUSTICE LEAGUE switch these around.
JUSTICE LEAGUE hits theatres November 4, 2017.
