The Evidence of the Film (1913)

Evidence of the Film
1913
William Garwood as the Broker
Marie Eline as Messenger Boy
Riley Chamberlin as Clerk
Florence la Badie as Sister of Boy
WATCHED: Summer 2011

Brief Plot Summary
An unscrupulous broker steals $20,000 worth of bonds, but is pursued as he attempts to escape.  He runs into a young messenger boy and palms the bonds off on him.  The boy is apprehended, and is accused of stealing the bonds.  Fortunately, the collision between the boy and the broker took place at an intersection where a film was being shot.  The filmmakers inadvertently catch the bond transfer on camera, a fact which is noticed by the boy's sister, who works as a film cutter.  She pockets the evidence and exonerates the boy.  The End.

My Reaction
This film was wholeheartedly average.  The acting was standard for an early 20th century silent film.  The plot was standard for an early 20th century silent film.  My reaction to it was standard for an early 20th century silent film.  I really don't have much to say about this movie.
The only thing I can think of that would make this film significant is the fact that there is only one known copy of this film in existence.  It was thought lost until it was found in a cinema projection booth in Montana.  That's pretty much the definition of a rare film (the only one known copy part, not the Montana part--I don't think there's a whole lot of rare films in Montana, although you never know).
