The family friendly Bull Pitt in Wrotham

Tags: bull

Last summer I was invited along to review the new ‘Bull Pitt’ – a smokery that had opened within the Bull Hotel. This year I was invited back, with toddler in tow to check out what’s now become a permenant fixutre with a Green Egg being used in the kitchens to smoke, grill and slow roast. Here’s my review….

The Bull Pitt, Wrotham

The Bull Hotel, Bull Lane

Ambiance

The Bull is a hotel, restaurant, bar and wedding venue set in the pretty village of Wrotham. We visited on a Saturday when the sun was shining and people were making the most of the outside seating area set under a vast pergola.

Service

The staff are warm, welcoming and were very accommodating of our toddler. Activity sheets and colouring pens were available, with a choice of high chairs or booster seats, and a nice open space to play to the rear of the building. Service was a perfect mix of relaxed but efficient.

Food

In addition to its modern menu, The Bull has launch the first real smokehouse in Kent – ‘The Bull Pitt’ menu is served outside and in the bar and is now available all year round. Everything on the menu is smoked, slow roasted or grilled on a ‘Big Green Egg’ and teamed with homemade sauces and side dishes. We shared an amazing platter of fresh chargrilled chorizo sausage, spicy beef bangers, fruity chilli chicken wing that were tender and juicy, ten hour smoked pulled pork served in a brioche bun with apple mustard sauce, eight hour smoked brisket that literally melted in the mouth and packed a deep beefy flavour punch, and sides of hand cut chips and red slaw.

Child facilities checklist:

Highchairs – YES

Baby changing facilities – YES

Car park – YES

Garden – YES (a gravel area with chairs and tables and shading under a pergola to the rear)

Childrens play area – NO

Entertainment for kids? – YES (pens and colouring paper)

Drink

The Bull prides itself on selecting wine, beers and ales from local vineyards and artisan breweries. We enjoyed a glass of ice cold rose and a pint of Curious Brew lager, both from Chapel Down winery in Tenterden.

My Overview

A meat lovers paradise
