Depp downloads dark double

Welcome to yet another episode of The Horror Movie Show, hosted by madcap zanies Mark & Jerry. The show kicks off immediately with a review of Johnny Depp‘s latest science-fiction epic, Transcendence. This story of a scientist who injects his dead self into the World Wide Web is a mishmash of several other SF flicks — the Matrix movies, Brainstorm, The Terminator & many others. Is Transcendence worth watching? Listen & learn.

A pair of true knock-down-drag-out psycho-horror movies — Wolf Creek (2005) and new Wolf Creek 2 — are up next. Both star John Jarratt as Mick Taylor, the baddest Aussie Outback maniac since Paul Hogan poked crocodile teeth in the brim of his sunhat. Always fun to compare originals & sequels.

The very cinematic & beautiful Hungarian movie Final Cut: Hölgyeim és uraim (2012) next gets the HMPod treatment. This simple love story about a man & a woman is composed entirely of brief clips from hundreds, perhaps thousands, of others movies: films from Hollywood, French movies, German flicks, everywhere & everything. It makes for a truly dream-like feature, well worth seeing.

Finally, the boys discuss the super-low-budget Star Trek: Of Gods & Men (2007). More a labour of love than a truly professional product, the main characters in this spinoff from the original series & movies are Chekhov & Uhura, so that gives you some idea. However, true Trekkies or Trekkers are going to love this sincere love-letter to the iconic series. Beam us up!
