22nd Annual Screen Actor’s Guild Awards: Red Carpet + Interviews!

And that’s a wrap from Awards Season 2016… but first, let’s take a look at how it all began!

As I’m sitting here catching up on my posts that are way overdue from the past few weeks, I couldn’t help but to reminisce on all the fun I had at the Sag Awards. For the second year in a role, I hosted the 22nd Annual Screen Actor’s Guild Awards for my Associated Press fam and had an unbelievable time interviewing nominees like Alicia Vikander, Eddie Redmayne, Jeffrey Tambor, and more!

The SAG Awards is so different from all the other Award shows because all the acting nominees are selected by 4,200 SAG-AFTRA union members. There are no categories for directors, producers, screen-writers, or any of the crew members… not because we don’t love them or that films/TV projects can even get made without them, but it’s simply because the SAG Awards is all about a community of actors coming together to celebrate each other!

My red carpet look for the SAG Awards was inspired by Julia Roberts from “Pretty Woman”. Remember that scene where she was running in a regal red dress with white gloves? Yasss! That’s it. Huge thanks to my friend Michael Costello for making me this stunning red hot “Sarafina” gown! I absolutely love the off-the-shoulder look with a high slit. Michael knows how to accentuate my curves with his exquisite designs! He never disappoints when it comes to red carpet fashion, and I’m so grateful that he always comes through and shuts it down with an absolutely breath-taking dress!

My jewelry was by my friend Narcisa Pheres, a Hong Kong-based jewelry designer. Narcisa sent me beautiful black diamond earrings and a shimmery black bracelet to complete the look.

My glam squad most certainly shut it down! Tay Rivera did my makeup and gave me soft smokey eyes and bold red lips, and Lauren game me old Hollywood glam curls.

Also, special shout-out to my friends at the Kim Vo Salon in Beverly Hills for always taking care of me! Kim Vo freshened up my locks by giving me a color glaze. He’s responsible for the beautiful balayage (or “bronde,” if you prefer) I’ve been rocking. Kim is known for being one of the only top stylists in LA who can take a client with dark hair (black like mine) and turning it into a beautiful shade of ombre! My hairstylist Mika Fowler gave me her infamous dry cut and added more layers in so when we curl the hair, the layers truly show!

SAG AWARDS ✖️ ASSOCIATED PRESS ⭐️ Just a few of my favorite interviews snapped by my producer @michaelcidonilennox! First-time Oscar nominee Alicia Vikander talked about how her nod is a sense of pride for Sweden. Priyanka Chopra and Uzo Aduba dished on diversity in TV and film… Eddie Redmayne is getting ready for the biggest role of his life – fatherhood. And I picked Jeffrey Tambor’s brain on conversations about trans community! ⭐️ #aliciavikander #eddieredmayne #priyankachopra #jeffreytambor #oitnb #uzoaduba #sagawards #AP #associatedpress #aptv #tvhost #redcarpet

Diversity took centerstage at the SAG Awards. When I caught up with Uzo Aduba and the rest of her cast from “Orange Is the New Black,” I had to ask her just why a show like OITNB, both ethnically diverse and showcases so many strong female leads, is necessary in today’s market. “Quantico” star Priyanka Chopra also spoke about what it’s like to be one of the sexiest new female icons on television and how proud she is to represent her Indian heritage.

Although Vogue called her an “over-night success,” first-time Oscar nominee Alicia Vikander from “Ex-Machina” and “The Danish Girl” told me that her journey was years in the making. Starting out as a ballerina, getting rejected from theater school and eventually starring in 7 films in the U.S. in 2015, she’s the new ingenue taking Hollywood by storm and we love it.

GOODBYE FOR NOW! ON TO THE NEXT ONE…
